Does anybody know if a 96 (p) rav-4 recquires a special set of sparkplugs?

mines due for a service tomorrow and the garage reckons it might need them at £8 each!!!!!!!

Not sure but I know that 1998 - 2000 models require Platinum plugs that are replaced every 60,000 miles here in the US.

I believe your 96 RAV4 needs the same type of plugs as my 97 RAV4 with 3S-FE engine. My owner manual indicates that recommended spark plug should be DENSO PK20R11 or NGK BKR6EP-11. Both of them are plutinum plugs that should last 100,000km. 8 pound/each is actually good price. Someone in England mentioned he paid 15 pounds for it.

BKR6EP-11 specification:
B - 14mm thread diameter
K - 5/8" hex size construction, projected tip (ISO)
R - Resistor type
6 - heat range (2 through 11)
E - 19mm (3/4" )thread reach
P - Premium platinum
11 - 1.1mm gap

is there anything wrong with using another type of platinum plugs?
ones without the double ground?
