2006 base model, 4cyl, FWD, 215/70/16s... reads about 5mph fast. If felt slow - in that when it reports 30, we're going 25. The grilles in the rear view mirror are a good indicator too. I've checked with GPS - the speedo definitely reports about 5mph faster than the car's actually going.

I was hoping it was the tires... nope - has a new set of Yokohama 215/70/16s.

Any idea what could be going on?

Thanks.

Pretty sure the stock size on my 06 Limited was 225/65/17.

So comparing the total diameter between that and your 215/70/16 is 28.52 inches vs. 27.85 inches.

Which means that your tires will make the speedo read 2.39% faster... See link below:

225-65R17 vs 215-70R16 - Tire and Wheel Plus Sizing | Tire Size Calculator

I do agree the difference is too big to be the tire sizes alone... See the speed example. At 62 mph on stock tire size, you're actually only going 60 mph.

It is supposed to read fast. It's the law here in the USA that should a speedo display faster than actual, the manufacturer can be sued - and they have been!
