Speedometer reads fast

2006 base model, 4cyl, FWD, 215/70/16s... reads about 5mph fast. If felt slow - in that when it reports 30, we're going 25. The grilles in the rear view mirror are a good indicator too. I've checked with GPS - the speedo definitely reports about 5mph faster than the car's actually going.

I was hoping it was the tires... nope - has a new set of Yokohama 215/70/16s.

Any idea what could be going on?

Thanks.

Pretty sure the stock size on my 06 Limited was 225/65/17.

So comparing the total diameter between that and your 215/70/16 is 28.52 inches vs. 27.85 inches.

Which means that your tires will make the speedo read 2.39% faster... See link below:

I do agree the difference is too big to be the tire sizes alone... See the speed example. At 62 mph on stock tire size, you're actually only going 60 mph.
