I went through the threads below but could not find anything on a manual transmission for 06.

My RAV4 days will end on my current second generation RAV4 if the RAV4 is not offered with a manual in a 4 cylinder.

Like the 4Runner, I will have to say good bye to the RAV4s too.
I already can't buy the Land Cruiser (stickshift in Middleast and everywhere else).

Only Echo, Corolla and come Camry's left with a stick now. What will I buy? What will I do? How will I transport my hand that changes gears.

Does anybody have info on 06s??

I'd have to agree and say that I'd be very surprised if they didn't offer at least a base model five-speed 4-cylinder. There are enough of us out there who like the stick that most manufacturers of small SUVs offer the choice.

Abandoning the manual transmission is a mistake.

I remember reading an article many years ago that said when the U.S. Military and AM General were designing the HMMWV (aka Hum-vee and later the Hummer), they had to include an automatic transmission in the design, because the military found that fewer new recruits knew how to use a manual transmission.

I believe that the decline of the manual transmission (in the U.S.) is obviously related to the amount of traffic in the United States, and also because Americans are inherently lazy. Why shift gears when you can use your right hand to hold your cell phone?

I love having a manual transmission, but it was hell when I used to commute into NYC every day, or when I got stuck in traffic on I-84 going through Connecticut (apparently people in CT have never seen rain or construction before). It is definitely a convenience, especially if you spend most of your driving time stuck in traffic.

If the 2006 Rav4 V6 does not come with a manual transmission, I will not buy it.

Why an automatic?

--I believe that the decline of the manual transmission (in the U.S.) is obviously related to the amount of traffic in the United States, and also because Americans are inherently lazy. ....

:( Gee, inherently LAZY Americans? Do you have electric windshield wipers? They used to be manual. Do you have power-assisted brakes and steering? Why? You could do it without the power assist couldn't you? How about electric windows? Why don't you strip them out and put in window cranks? Talk about lazy!

At least you were not too lazy to provide an opposing opinion...

Another reason would be left knee/foot/ankle problems which would make it difficult or painful to use a clutch.
Please careful when you generalize.
Jim. :(

All I'm saying is that automakers should not abandon manual transmissions, because there are millions of people who prefer them over automatics.

As most folks around here already know, I ONLY drive manual. Period. Granted I won't be in the market anytime soon anyway, but if they don't offer a manual, that would be a major problem for me when/if I am in the market.

Surprised!

I am surprised to see so many manual transmission enthusiasts. I was hoping for an anti attack. Well, there is at least one person on this thread who is not happy with the manual transmission favour.

I love it when I get stuck in traffic with a manual. I don't know why but I want to shift in/out/in/out/in/out in New York traffic. I wake up every day to shift gears, eat and have ***.

I think the gear shifters are the people who love driving and learned how to drive in a manual. People like me do not understand why they are not shifting when put in an automatic car.

In 1994, I bought my first automatic. I did not know that I would hate automatic. I thought that everybody was buying it so why not?

About 4-5 months down the road, something was troubling me.
I did not know what? I could not pin point.
The feeling was like I was eating food, but not enjoying it or it has ZERO calories in it. I was getting the feeling especially when I was thinking about cars, driving or thinking about driving........... It took me a while but I figured out what was missing from my LIFE...... a MANUAL TRANSMISSION........... Sold that car the day after I figured out my problem. The guy who was buying it could not understand my reason for selling my car......... " Uuuuuuuuuu. It is automatic!"

In 1999, I was in market and decided to buy a USED automatic 4Runner from a friend dealer. He let me have the car for a week to drive before purchasing it. It was automatic. I announced to the world that I am a changed man and will switch to an automatic now because I could not find a manual tranmission 4Runner. None of my friends believed me and they were right.
I drove that car for 2 days, I was manually moving my shifter from L to 2 to D3 and D4........... and back and won't let the car do the shifting. Driving my wife crazy with those click sounds. Not to mention driving myself crazy. At the end of the second day, I lost it and returned the car. I had to fly to Boston from Detroit to get me a stickshift 4Runner which I sold very soon because of GAS reasons.

Will NEVER attempt an automatic.
The manumatic shifts are manual WANNA B's and I will say nothing more about them.

Anyway, I hope for many of us that the manual is not offered only in a 2WD or base model. My current RAV should last me atleast till 2020. By then I will be on VIAGRA anyway so who cares. Sorry for the story. You had to hear it.

I'll agree with everyone who posted in favor of manual trannies. I'm one of those who can't  drive an automatic. Why? I feel much more in control of the vehicle with a manual tranny.

As a matter of fact, I'd prefer more manual controls on my vehicles...roll up windows? I do have to confess though, power locks are handy when letting the kids in and out of a car...I had a 1983 Rabbit a bunch of years ago with a manual sunroof...that was cool...Cruise control is also a nice invention...but honestly, my 1966 Land Rover has a hand throttle that could be used as a makeshift cruise...not that I'd use it in that manner...

And, there's nothing like nailing a double clutch downshift when coming around a corner...try that in an automatic...

So, I'm one of those holdouts as well...but I can see, in a number of years, when you won't be able to buy a manual transmission, I'll have to give in...

At least that means nobody will be able to steal my rovers, if they can't drive a manual, imagine a non synchronized manual tranny...ha

I have cruise control but never use it. I like roll up windows too. I am in the market for a 1980-83 FJ40 Land Cruiser right now. I bet it would be FUN since the controls on it would be primitive like your Land Rover !

Yep, I used to drive in Chicago all the time, same deal. It never bothered me one bit. What bothers me is my left foot fumbling for a clutch that isn't there, which is what happens every time I make the mistake of trying to drive an auto.

I didn't learn in a manual, but I got a manual within less than two years of getting my license. My father got a manual, I tried it, and fell in love (not with the car though...it was a Dodge Omni, LOL!). Nothing but manuals for me since about 1986.

LOL! As you may know I Amtraked from Wisconsin to Boston to get my current manual Rav. What is it about Boston and manuals?

As for other manual stuff, well, now that I've figured out how to work the power locks (and believe me, it took a while  ) I admit I kinda like them, or rather I like the remote keyless entry aspect. Power windows also had a learning curve for me (Isn't that sad? And I'm usually a techy person too!), but I guess they're okay. Cruise...I used it on the way home from Boston and haven't touched it since, not even on other road trips.

There are more people like me. YES!!!! If you don't mind, may I print this and show this to my friends and wife. They think I need help, not a manual transmission.
I bet people made fun of you about that. I also went to Baltimore to pickup my RAV4 manual..... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had to get my manual Corolla from Dayton, Ohio.

My wife almost left me because of my long distance car trips. Now I am looking for a FJ40 and there is one in Colorado... I have not become serious about it. If I do... God help me...!

I have been called THE Fruit of the Loom since then since I work for the Fruit of the Loom company!!

I recently relocated to Kentucky. One of the reasons.... "Closer to states that have manual transmissions."

We should have a club!!!!
Never found manuals in Detroit.

If I ever tried trading in my old cars, the dealers used to say, "U are still driving a manual?" Sorry we can give u half of what the car is worth since nobody wants them.....

LOL! Feel free to show your friends and family!

I did get a few people who were like, "You're kidding right?" but the people who know me know how fanatical I am about Ravs and manuals, so they barely batted an eye believe it or not! I actually had more people tell me how STUPID it is that I couldn't just get one here than who told me I was stupid for going. :) My boss at the time would've been in the latter category, so I avoided it by not telling her where I was going or what I was doing. My current boss is in the former category, which is nice.

When I found the one in Boston my husband just asked me if I was gonna buy it, I told him yes, and that was that. He would've rather gone to get the one in Denver that I found (it was a manual Sport), but once he got to Boston he fell in love with the town. Basically the deal was that we could spend $900 having it shipped here on a truck, or we could use that $900 (and a bit more) and not only get a great car but also have a great vacation. No brainer!

Now I am looking for a FJ40 and there is one in Colorado
Boston and Colorado, manual tranny capitals of the U.S. apparently. The manual Sport I found last year was at John Elway Toyota.
