I have a 1997 Rav4 L 4door 4wd auto that I need new shocks and struts. Any recommendations???

I noticed that some websites list the front struts only as cartridges. How do I tell if the struts have a cartridge to replace or not. Toyota dealer does not sell the cartridge, only complete strut.

Any help would be appreciated....

After my OEM struts wear out on my 1999 Rav4, I replaced them with KYB struts.

The performance and handling is much better, and its a free low-down of about... 3'~ hehe~

Greatly recommending KYB for your Toyota!!! "if your planning on replacing your struts~"

i have a 4.2 and don't have kyb, but i can tell you that the koni's are great! it's seriously night and day. it's like driving a new car. definitely more bumpy though. for 4.2 people kyb doens't make suspension for both front and back...only one or the other. i forget which.

jamezckf and zoomie have given excellent info. My I add.

1. Koni and Bilstein both ARE pricey, but they are top of the line
2. KYB, They can do the job depending.
3. Toyota OEM [Ain't worth much]

In my opinion, what type of driving you do? Street, Soft, Hard, Aggressive. When you answer this question, then you could decide. Also, take in consideration what road you frequent driving. But everyone tends to upgrade regardless.
