They used to build them INTO the dash, not on top. Like the rest of the instruments, they were shaded.

I know this doesn't help the current situation, sorry.

I plan to make my own and here is a suggestion that I will try:

At the craft stores and on the net they sell thin colored foam sheets. I would use black). I was going to buy a black one and cut a strip about 1 or 2" wide. Then I would use thin velcro strips, I'd cut the 1" wide strip in half length wise, to make something about 1/2 or even narrower strips about 1" long. then bond the strips to the edge of the foam pad and the other part of the velcro to the edge of the display. I think with a little experimentation as to the width of the foam that works best for you might be necessary.

On my Rav it doesn't have nav and I am glad because I can't see the screen if the sun is out. I seem to get a reflection off my clothes in the screen from sun shining on my clothes. Not sure if a sun screen will provide relief from that. I tried to block sun from the screen but it didn't work. I use a 7 inch Garmin in the center storage area, fits perfect and no issues seeing the screen. Also you can change information even when car is moving.

I have a screen shade in my Prius and like you said it's not a cure all. It helps in most situations but there are times such as low sun coming in the rear window when it still washes out.

Thanks i'll look into it. No one seems to be making one that fits.

So who is going to be the guinea pig?

Does the stickum work, fall off? Does it warp in the heat?

I wish it wasn't a stick on as it leaves marks on the screen when and if you remove it. Worried about it flexing from the head. Hope they'll make one that goes over the head unit like a cover.

its a sticker base, mine hasn't fallen off (yet). just practice clean surface before adding the sun shade.
mine hasn't warped from the heat, i live in cali ... and it hasn't been that hot yet.
I cleaned the area very well before putting it on. Applied plenty of force and kept it in the shade [garaged] for a few days to go hard. So far so good. It provides plenty of shade for the screen and looks a lot better than the screen jutting up out of the dash.

I purchased my shade from Amazon and am happy with the fit and the look. It would be nice if Toyota incorporated a sunshade in the future so we would not have to resort to stick on solutions. Has anyone tried a tablet anti-glare screen protector as an additional measure?

not to be negative, but i've tried this as well and its great if your looking at the screen straight on. from an angle you had dead zone ... just saying
