Well that is very interesting.

My VIN number pattern is not listed in this TSB.

My VIN has this format: JTMN1RFV4KDxxxxxx so I searched the PDF for JTMN1RFV#KD and got zero hits.

I also noticed that the Aichi plant where mine was built in Dec 2018 is not listed.

I wonder what all this means and does it explain why my front roof rail post is orange?

Interesting how your orange washer is flattened or squished down when installed. Those orange foam washers look quite different when first placed on the clips. Automotive tire Water Asphalt Tire Auto part

That's kind of my point. If they knew how to do it right (assumption), why did they change it in the first place and why not go back to what I have if what I have is not part of the issue? The new orange ones do not look anything like the ones I have from the factory except they are orange.
Man. Blessings answered for many. Mine just started doing this after I bought it from CarMax. And it’s got the shaky mirrors and the “vrrrt” noise from the driveline disconnect. The only thing I can’t get fixed is the shaky mirrors (over the 36k mile warranty :( ). But wow. I’m making an appointment for this in addition to the driveline problem ASAP. Thank you for posting. This forum is awesome.

That's what I thought. Your flattened ones do not look like they are foam like the ones Toyota is going to use in the TSB. Yours look like some kind of hard orange nylon or plastic washer, or even a semi-solid orange sealant squirted on during assembly that hardened.

Please let us know how it goes at the dealer.

Will do. I made a service appointment online with my advisor that I’m familiar with. He has parts for the driveline issue already, but he left early today so I didn’t talk to him directly about this new bulletin. I don’t anticipate a problem. Definitely going to try and get a loaner.

Same issue with my 2019 Adventure. The “vrrt” noise from the transfer case mostly went away with fresh transfer case oil but it’s still noisy sometimes. Taking mine in Tuesday for the roof rail leak and will take along the transfer case TSB to see what they’ll do. Did they require any proof? I was never able to record mine doing it as it’s not all the time, only really noticed it when accelerating moderately quickly then going into quick downshifts coming to a stop. 60k is in 800 miles so figured I should get it looked at ASAP

It is a pain, but you can do the shaky mirror fix yourself. Just get the TSB and it lists the parts you need and the procedure.

Oh absolutely already in the works my friend ;)

Make sure when you take it to the dealer for the noise, it’s actually doing it. Make sure they test it warm like 30-45 minutes of driving. I’d grab a video of it doing it if you can just in case. Worked for me. I bring up the tsbs on my phone and explain. Make sure you get proof of the roof rack too. Save them as much time as you can because they definitely don’t wanna do it lol. That’s why they’re TSBS and not recalls lol

edit: also I heard from my advisor they “extended” that transfer case noise thing. Idk how long. Ask them how many miles/years it’s covered for. Can never be too sure.

Thank you for the info! I printed out both TSB with descriptions of what it’s doing for both. Wish they’d let people talk to the techs instead of the receptionists. Always feel like you’re talking to a wall lol! Before I go I will see about getting the transfer case to act up. With the roof leak, hopefully they have enough sense to check further as the wiring harness damage and airbag damage isn’t addressed in the TSB. It’s beyond me why it’s not a full-blown recall. Well, I know it’s about money but this will cost them more in the long-run.

You should also print out the Customer Support Bulletin to dealers that the TSB comes from. That document makes it very clear that the dealers have to check and replace EVERYTHING damaged by water leaks.

Thanks for that! Will do. I also wrote a note on the TSB detailing my drive mode issue and explained that I need that checked and fixed before I’ll take the car back. Wish we could talk to techs at the dealer and not just the reception. Always feel like I’m talking to myself when I need something. Had a blown speaker early on and explained it to them. Was told they couldn’t replicate it and needed a master tech to check it at a later date. I said come out and listen to it for yourself but they wouldn’t even do that. Next time they confirmed it was bad and replaced it. You’d think I was asking for a whole new car. Also, thanks for your dedication on this issue. Been combing this forum for a week now and learned a lot.

I appreciate that as I was attacked recently in the new thread on this roof leak customer support program (general section) by a poster who said my "long" posts were unreadable and depressing. He suggested I should try to help people more. I thought that I had been.

There’s always one I guess. I mean, it’s a learning experience for all of us. You aren’t getting paid for it, you’re just passing on useful info as it comes. We know until now Toyota wasn’t doing a damn thing for us and still aren’t proactive in taking care of existing customers. They’ve only been making cars for 90 years, maybe in another 90 they’ll make one without holes punched in the roof needlessly. Or at least have funnels under each clip with tubing that drains down through the floor.
Well that is very interesting.

Fwiw, all Primes are from Aichi so TICO No2 could be it. (Stands for Toyota Industries Co)

I second this, do the fix yourself.

Dealership did the TSB on mine on its first 5k service for free. They screwed it up so bad it had to go to the body shop. Panel bonding adhesive all over the inside/outside of door and on the front SofTex seating.

I did get new inner door trims and a new passenger seat cover out of the deal though... Even though the original ones were in perfect condition before they ruined them 🙄

It's too bad the dealers won't give you TSB repair parts (roof leak kit, shaky mirror) for FREE so you can DIY the repair.
