Techstream trans reset question

Ahoy all,
I have a 2010 V-6 Limited, 72K. Trans shifts are super soft and kind of eratic(light throttle up a hill, 2-3-2 kind of shift. doesn't feel like the TCC locking and unlocking) at times. Trans doesn't slip, but I would like to tighten it up. Was going to first try resetting the trans computer, but with four different versions of techstream it says the feature is not available on my model. Currently and having the best luck with version 8.10.021 Guessing I have an incompatible cable? Live data works, custom features work, programming new smart keys work, just no TCM reset.

Side note, I have swapped trans fluid and the trans shifts much better when it is below 60 degrees. Kind of how I would expect it to. Has a lot of symptoms that a Zip kit sounds like it would fix, so that might be my next step if I can get it to reset.

Any insight to this?

What adapter are you using? If it's one of those 'Mini VCI' cables, know that there are several hardware versions of that thing and while most will read basic data, most cannot work at the higher levels. Worse, there is no easy way to identify the one that works from the rest, and most seller's description of the adapter "version" are meaningless. That could also be a reason why the system says the feature isn't available. I have no direct experience with it, but after doing quite a bit of research into getting TechStream myself, it seems a product by VXDIAG called the VCX Nano is much better than the cheap Mini VCI cable adapters...

That said, I always thought the transmission computer could be reset simply by disconnecting the power for a few minutes... I know TechStream offers the reset option, but I always thought that was so you could do it manually, without fussing with the battery and also losing the engine ECU settings etc... Have you tried that?

It is one of those mini-vci cables. I thought I read something about that in the past, but could not find the info. Thanks for the info, I'll look into the VCX Nano.

I have tried the pull the battery trick a couple of times, no difference. The FSM claims you have to do it through the computer, so assuming that the info is stored in non volatile memory.

Thanks again!

If you get that VCX Nano thing, please let us know how it goes... It's on my 'want' list, but I have no immediate need so it's going to be a little while until I get one for myself. But I'll be sure to post my experience when I do

OT - you probably know this, but those Mini VCI cables are Chinese copies of Chinese copies of an old Chinese copy of an adapter called the Mangoose (or something, sounds like a bad translation issue). Point is, a million places stamp those things out and most use whatever parts they have on hand... Most of the time that results in an adapter that does not work correctly. The VCX Nano adapter apparently uses it's own proprietary design that actually works as intended (and is supposedly much faster as well).

Long overdue update. Just bought, received and used the VCX Nano. It successfully will reset the transmission, and operates a bit quicker than the mini vci cables. Well worth the hundred dollars! The wifi connection does seem a bit flakey though.

Another plus, it gives you a link for Techstream 18 and the drivers. Installed very painlessly on my old windows 10 tablet without any issues, and just works. Where as I could never get one other version to work on that tablet with the old cable. Is strange that it 'needs' to connect to the server, or you only have a certain number of tries.

All in all I'm cheap, but would easily spend the money in the VVX Nano over the cheaper cables.

I just searched VCX Nano and found this website.

The USB adapter is this one.

The Wifi adapter is this one.

If buying direct from vxdiagshop.com, it shows $95 for the USB version and 10-18 days for delivery with free shipping, so I assume that it's being shipped from China. It also shows payment via PayPal or Bank Transfer only. To pay via credit card, you have to go through PayPal. It's probably safer to go through PayPal, since you have some recourse if something goes wrong with the order. Also, if you decide to return for some reason other than it being defective, there's a 15% return fee and you have to pay return shipping.

On Amazon, it shows $130, but it qualifies for Prime 2 day shipping and free returns.

Correct, buying direct comes from directly from China. I almost bought it from them, but didn't want the hassle if it didn't work.

Just as a note, I bought the Wifi version which also connects direct via a micro USB plug. I found the Wifi to be flaky and slow, but still worked. Also sounds like it can act as an interface to other manufactures, going to look for Honda software for my wifes Passport.
