Here's a story that I think you'll enjoy greatly.

A couple weeks back, my buddies and I decided that it was finally time that we could take the RAV off-road. Getting down the trail was the easy part, but getting up, not so much. In the long run, the RAV ended up going off the side of the road, and was only being held up by a couple of trees. If you guys want to hear the rest of this story, pleasew visit this Youtibe Video. I'll spare you the "woulda, shoulda, coulda's", and say thanks for sharing. It was an entertaining video. Everyone who off-roads as a hobby or sport started here, totally unprepared and hopelessly stuck. My Tundra wouldn't be the truck it is today if I didn't get stuck so many times.

Without getting into your RAV specifically, think about bringing a set of tire chains into the mountains and Maxtrax produces good recovery boards I've used often.

Thank you for the useful information, I’ll definitely be investing in some recovery gear. I’m also hoping to purchase a winch, and weld a frame support to attach it to. I’m glad you enjoyed. Also, I’m not worried about my license plate, the Jeep owner wanted his covered, I’m not worried about mine.

Glad you got off the mountain intact! Considering the Jeep had to winch itself out is encouraging; the snow and ice isn't too forgiving. Pretty good production quality on the video as well; a fair bit of it doesn't look like it was shot on a phone.

I really haven't done any 4-wheeling(I'm mostly into sports cars, my RAV4 is the first CUV I've ever owned) but the RAV4 looks fairly capable for light work. I'm actually local to the area; I live in the Springs but work up in Monument/Palmer Lake(at least when I'm not working remotely like I am now, haha). This might be a good trail to try when things get back to normal and the snowmelt has finished.

Absolutely, this trail would honestly be fairly easy for the RAV, but the snow makes it extremely difficult. I would definitely say still bring some rescue and recovery gear, just in case. That’s pretty cool that you actually live up in Palmer Lake. It’s such a cool town.

It definitely was a good learning experience, to say the least. Hopefully soon I'll be investing in a winch, as well as some recovery gear for when we get stuck.
