I'm going to look at a 99 RAV4 auto trans AWD 171k miles. Anything in particular I should be aware of?
On the back, it says RAV4 L the L is so much larger than the other letters it looks like it was added?
They are asking $3k
Look at your brake and gas lines running under the car on the driver's side. Mine were heavily corroded where the lines pass through the retaining clips.
Check those tranny cooler lines, one of mine broke destroying my manual tranny.
Other than that it is the same as any other that I can think of.
I'd examine the body and suspension very thoroughly for rot and rust. Those are what usually terminates these older cars not powertrain repairs.
After that my two main tests are a pedal-to-the-metal 0-70mph run on the highway to check the engine & transmission and a run down a rough road as a suspension test.
