I have a 2012 v6.

My "Spare Me" bike carrier will not fit. The mounting plate can't be placed over the lug studs on the spare mount due to an extra "lip" of metal. Have any of you run into this same problem? If so, is there a way to address it without buying a whole new rack?

I have a Saris spare tire mount and ran into the same issue, so I just broke the lip loose, grinded it down smooth, hit it with a little black paint, problem solved!

Make sure you install the the plate with the cutout hole on the top half, not the bottom half. If it's an old rack and won't fit, Thule has a newer version of the mounting plate that is compatible with the RAV4 spare tire mount. You can order just the new mounting bracket direct from Thule for $42. No need to modify anything. I've had a Spare Me rack on my RAV4 for a few years now.
