Hello everyone,

Would someone know if the Rav4 2019 comes with a "Timing Chain" or "Timing Belt" ?

Thanks

Just about all modern engines use timing chains now--timing belts are a thing of the past.

Except Honda. Rockauto lists timing belts for at least thru 2017 models.

My '17 Sonic also has a timing belt. It is rare these days for sure but it does allow for quieter operation than a chain. It is a long life belt so will only need to be changed once if I have the car long enough (160,000kms intervals). I can tell you the Sonic engine is much quieter than the Rav under all conditions except for when WOT over 4000rpm.
My old '95 Escort GT had a belt as well and it looked brand new when it was changed out at 100,000 kms.
To be honest, I'm not sure one drive mechanism is better than the other. Depends on how well it is executed. One of the reasons I got rid of my '06 Explorer was the noise it made on start-up and while running. One or both of the timing chain cartridges was broken. It would have cost more to fix than the suv was worth and it didn;t have crazy high miles on it ar 203,000 kms.
