Another victim of the dead battery issue that seems to be plaguing this year's model of Rav4 Hybrid.
Here's my situation: I'm parked in a single stall indoor garage that I'll have to back out of. When I've jumped conventional vehicles in the past, the engine roars to life and you sit there idling for a few minutes until you think it's safe to unhook and drive on. What happens with the hybrid? In normal circumstances, the motor doesn't start until I put it into reverse (and sometimes not then, if the main battery is sufficiently charged)
Do I leave the pack hooked up until it charges the battery some before pushing the start button? I haven't been able to find much online. (because the garage is basically inside my house, I don't want to call toyota care for a boost if I can at all avoid it)
What should I expect with a hybrid?

Thanks!

You merely need to connect the jump pack while you press the start button. The moment the "ready" indicator comes on the dash (during a normal startup this takes about a second) you can unhook the pack.

The actual power for the car in ready mode is coming from the dc-dc converter (it's part of the inverter, that huge box next to the engine) which is getting the power from the car's hybrid battery.

The 12v battery is no longer needed it's only there as a backup during driving, to provide power during the power up sequence for the inverter, and of course to run accessories and the keyless entry when the car is "off" (not in ready mode).

Don't worry about the engine it gets started using the hybrid battery only.

You can leave the car in ready mode, whether driving or parked, for a few hours to recharge the 12v battery. Make sure you turn off the lights and climate control. It will burn minimal fuel doing this. Note that if your 12v battery gets fully discharged like this it's permanently damaged and a few full discharges and the battery will require replacement.

As soon as you touch the jump start ports and press ready, everything will light up. You are only starting a computer, not an engine. 8 D batteries will work in a pinch. One thing I did not realize is that some cables do not conduct on both sides of the clamps. Always connect the clamps with the wire going into the clamps on the metal side of the charging plate. If you need a video to help understand what I am stating, I will post one, or do a search for "Professor Kelly Prius 12 volt charging system."

Don't leave LION jump packs in hot cars.

Just a theory, make sure windows are rolled up and the car is locked with key fob while in the garage. This could be cause the parasitic drain on the battery in my opinion.
