I have read that the rav4 come with a prius style alternator that reduces the load on the engine,
if thats true, is the tow prep alternator the same type, just higher amps?

or is it just a conventional alternator?

thanks!

"the 06 RAV 4 has an intelligent charging system. While idling and at cruising speed(in a low current situation) the alternator lowers its charging voltage to lessen the parasitic drag on the alternator thus giving you better fuel mileage. AND upon decelerating, the alternator goes into high voltage supply. This will aid in vehicle drag to slow it down and gas mileage will not be effected.. incredible..."

I posted this a while back Jimmy. The alternator on the new Rav works like this...

at idle and cruising speeds the alternator produces a minimal amount of amperage to lower the drag on the engine and to inprove gas mileage. BUT on deceleration, the alternator goes into full amperage to recharge the battery and aid in slowing down the truck. Lie you noted, simular to how the Prius. The tow package has the same alternaor just a higher amp rating

Just curious...on the V6, how does the tow package option allow you to tow 3500lbs (vs 2000 std on the V6). How does that work?

brakes and torque?

Bigger brakes and extra torque? The Toyota web page and RAV4 brochure only list an upgraded alternator, radiator, and fan coupling with the tow prep package. Where did you find this information? Thanks.
