The problem I have with extended warranties now is with hybrids. The hybrid warranty doesn't cover the rusty cable issue after 22 and the extended warranty doesn't cover it either. I can't see spending 1-2k on an extended warranty and be denied for the hybrid cable. I'd like more clarity on what components that won't be covered between the two warranties. My dealer couldn't answer the question either when trying to sell me the extended warranty. I've babied my Prime during the winter months keep it away from the salt so I'll keep it past the 3/36 but if I get some Primes or Hybrids in the future I need some answers from Toyota. Nowhere in the literature is there a mention of the cable not being covered and that's a huge exposure, enough to consider making these Toyotas 3 year cars. My wife's 22 XLE hybrid will be a good test of the first revision of the cable, it get clobbered by salt here in upstate NY so if it lasts I'll feel a lot better about Toyota's efforts but still too much confusion. They should say what's not covered for both warranties and list the sub components. So many parts now I'm not familiar with. I think Toyota should cover the whole hybrid system for as long as they cover the battery.

This is the platinum warranty brochure that shows you components covered. There’s a small section near the end that shows components that are not covered.
Exactly, how are you supposed to know which one of those exclusions is the hybrid cable? My dealer couldn't tell me. What would be even better is to publish the cost of the part for each one of those parts that's not covered. Point is these warranties are mostly for peace of mind, knowing your car is covered when it breaks except for normal wear and tear items. I think with a conventional car, when you get one of these plans you have zero exposure to a repair that costs as much as a hybrid cable replacement. Also, what else is there that's not covered that hasn't gotten the coverage that the hybrid cable received? For the Prime, the heating and A/C components are something like 13k IIRC per the Car Care Nut. Hope those are covered. Again, is there wear and tear in a hybrid system other than the battery which has its own warranty. IMO, Toyota should simply say they hybrid system is covered. Other changing the filter for the fan is there any maintenance that a consumer can do for the hybrid system? I don't think there is, so it would come down to how the car is driven I guess. IMO this give Toyota the ability to cut corners on some parts and make it the consumer's responsibility.

is there a specific component youre looking for? So the easiest way to think of these coverages is if it's a mechanical or electrical failure.
No sir but I wouldn't want history to repeat itself. For example, which one of those components does the hybrid cable fall under, it's too vague for the average person who is spending all the money.
