I hope so too, Vanib.

Aside: BMW, Mercedes and Audi just agreed to buy Nokia Map for about 3 billion $USD.

And BMW was talking to Apple about building a smart car, but so far has declined
because they fear that Apple would be the major supplier, and Apple would have
its foot way in the door, into BMW tech and finance game. So being the world's
most profitable company has its drawbacks.

Meh.

OEM head units are usually junk, very expensive junk, that you should just replace with an aftermarket offering anyway. Don't see that changing even with some adopting carplay/android.

The good thing though is that, if another OS becomes mainstream in a few years, Toyota could easily update the TeleNAV to support the additional OS ... at least in theory.

But can most aftermarket units integrate with the rest of the vehicle's data? E.g. show TPMS values, engine performance values, "miles to empty" and such?

I was under the impression that stuff was pretty proprietary per vehicle manufacturer.

There are some that integrate with the OBD port for that sort of info.

But most OEMs display that sort of stuff in the instruments or now some migrating to on glass heads up displays.
