All,
We bought a new XLE Hybrid a week ago, and are working thru the features. Since it's an XLE, it doesn't have all the built-in extras that you get on the XSE or Limited versions, but one of the thing that intrigued us was the "connected services" capability, which we signed up for. I took a look at the privacy statements for the car, and got a real surprise.
Toyota states that for driving data, location data, and multi-media display data, "We will store such data for a period of time not to exceed 20 years from the date of receipt by us, unless otherwise required by law, legal process or litigation." Further, under the definition of what driving data they collect, they state: "Driving Data. We collect your Driving Behavior Data (“Driving Data”) which includes the acceleration and speed at which your vehicle is driven, travel direction, and use of the steering and braking functionality in your vehicle."
After reading this, I am considering opting out of this service, since it seems a little too big-brother-ish. Does anyone else have the same reservations about this? I would be a lot more comfortable if they deleted the location and driving data after 60 days or such.
