I noticed in the "Owners Warranty Information" page 20, Toyota lowered the LONG-TERM Emission Control System Defect Warranty from the 80K that I had on my 01 to 70K on the 06. If I would have had the 70K on my 01, it woulod have cost me plenty.

I don't understand this as I thought the the 80,000 miles emisions warranty was a government mandate at least for the cats.

I thought so too, but the manual says 70,000.

EPA says:
Design and Defect Warranty Coverage for 1995 and newer light-duty vehicles:

* Emission control and emission related parts are covered for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of vehicle use; and

* Specified major emission control components are covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use.

What Are Specified Major Emission Control Components?

There are three specified major emission control components,
covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use on 1995
and newer vehicles:

* Catalytic converters.

* The electronic emissions control unit or computer (ECU).

* The onboard emissions diagnostic device or computer (OBD).
