Bought a 2007 Rav4 4 cyl auto. When slowly accelerating ,I get a growling ,grinding noise around 40 mph .I think it is when it shifts from 3rd to drive. If you gas it or shift to 3rd out of drive it will stop
If you,re on the gas it won.t do it.What gives Tranny gone at 121k.Or is it the tranny.?
On the test drive ,I was on the gas most of time so it never did it..
Thanks for any help
Bought a Matrix in "06 put over 200,000 miles.Only changed the brakes.Thought I couldn't wrong with the brand.

Maybe time for a complete tranny flush? What colour and odour is the trans oil? Black colour and burnt odour is not good.

Is your 2007 4WD? If so, it could be the electromagnetic coupler just in front of the rear differential. Toyota is fixing them for free under a service program.
