I drive a Tacoma. Recently my wife crashed her car, and being a Toyota guy I have been looking at RAV4s to buy for her. Looking to get a 2.0 4 cyl. With AWD. My question is witch are the best years with the least problems, and are they as reliable as my Tacoma. My truck is an 03 with 372000 miles and no major Problems if anyone was wondering.

The Gen2 RAV4 have the fewest problems which is 2001-2005. The 2001-2003 had ECU problems. The 2004-2005 had all the bugs worked out and had a bigger 2.4 litre engine vs 2.0 litre engine.
The Gen3 RAV4 size grew and so did the appeal and more models were sold. Avoid 2006-2008 with 2.4 litre engines due to excessive oil consumption and higher problems. The 2009-2012 have fewer problems than the 2006-2008 and are good buys.

My 2017 XLE has been perfect.
I wouldn't mind trading to a '19 or '20, but not a chance. Might have to wait a couple more years, or just keep driving what I have.
