I have a 2004 4 Door RAV here in Australia, without traction contol in it. Recently I went out four wheel driving and was horrified to discover that when I got one wheel off the ground, the other 3 wheels failed to turn, as the ABS kicked in. We had to put rocks under the wheel that was off the ground so that it could regain its grip and I could drive the vehicle out. Apparently if I had traction control fitted to the vehicle, I would of been able to use the remaining three wheels to drive the vehicle out, overriding the ABS.
My question is this... Can ABS be disconnected somehow if one wheel was to get lifted off ground?
Another question: I was told traction control works really bad on sand. Is this true?
Thanks in advance
