After hearing that it would cost me ~1500.00 to get a hitch and wire harness installed on my 22 R4 LE, I went shopping. Has anyone used the local U-Haul to buy a hitch and get it installed? It would cost me less than half of what the dealer wanted.
Thanks is advance...
I did on a Tacoma and it was great, they (U-Haul) did a fine job with it and it was great for all of my needs. It cost about $400-$450 (in 2018). I do recommend adding an extension if you are going to pull a short trailer as they can whip around on you in a heartbeat while backing and turning and punch right into your rear fender depending on how close the trailer is to your vehicle.
I bought a new 2024 RAV4 XLE last week and as part of my deal I wanted a 2" receiver and wiring installed on it (all from the dealer), and it is in and they are installing it in the morning.
My usual sales-person was busy so they put me with a young guy with a ton of "Salesman of the month" awards who tried the $1000 BS with me, I pulled up the OEM receiver for $486 or so, and several more for under $200, and a wiring plug in harness for $90 and told him I was going to walk.
They included it in the deal as it is the 4th vehicle I have bought from them.
Good luck.
