Not the strut bar in the engine bay, but a sway bar that's mounted under the car. Apparently the 4.2's already have a rear sway bar? Look for "roll bar" from this link: http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews/car-and-driving/toyota-rav4-2001993.html "This RAV4 is lighter and faster than its direct rivals and is far more comfortable over poor surfaces. This is thanks to a fully independent suspension set-up further improved by the addition of a rear anti-roll bar to improve cornering performance."

Is this sway bar only on the UK versions? or do we have 'em too b/c i don't see a sway bar under my 4.2. Anyone know where to get one?...other than orange PROTIX one from Japan? (Those are about $300 shipped by the way.)

I did some further research and found that someone had trouble with their car and refered to their rear anti-sway bar. i guess we do have 'em: http://64.233.187.104/search?q=cache:bi_sYUKCsqoJ:townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.eea1123+rav4+sway+bar&hl=en&client=firefox-a

If you scroll to the way bottom of this pdf file, you'll see something applicable for our car: http://www.whiteline.com.au/docs/catalogues/WL_02c.pdf But i think iit's wrong b/c it indicates an identical item for 2000 as well as 2001 model. But we all know they are different. I've emailed them and will post the reply once i get it...if ever.

4.2's come with anti-roll bars from the factory, the PROTIX that you are referring about is a 'tie-bar' which is the one that mounts right underneath close to the rear bumper, and the one that mounts on top of the shock towers in the rear is a 'strut-bar'.
i'm using these terms loosely because they might be called differently in other countries.

Thank you for calling me on that. You're completely right.

1) tie bar is usually under the car, shorter and located in the rear.
2) sway bar is longer and can be mounted front and/or rear.
3) strut bar located in engine bay.

Rav4oz has a thread about sway bars. Look there for more info too.
