Do I understand that in order to use the Weapon R ram-air intake system on an '07 V6 engine one must put an '08 MAF sensor on in place of the '07 OEM sensor? Is this possible W/O getting an engine code popping up even before installing the WeaponR system?

I have a ScanGuage II on my '07 RAV. Will the WeaponR system truly lower my intake temp. ?
Today in Las Vegas the ScanGuage II showed my air intake temp at 145 F. and the car thermometer said 107 F. outside air temp. Big difference between the two.

Man you brought up shades of the 5.0 VQ issues.

I came in here thinking "good grief another car manf has MAF issues?"

I can't answer your question, but do you really expect any intake that draws it's air from inside the engine compartment to lower the induction air temp? At 100+ degrees with the A/C dumping all the cabin heat into the radiator, you need an external snorkel.... or stay home. Here is an example - when you figure out how to do this on a 4.3 please let us know ;)

Or how about a water injection system? Usually this is for forced induction, but it might work for you, tho I have know idea how you would regulate the flow. It is normally dependent upon boost level. Maybe you could use a low pressure switch in an intake pipe to trigger the pump at WOT.

You could vent the hood - letting some of the engine heat out the top will definitely lower underhood temperatures.... a little.

Why are you so concerned about the inlet temp?

With external scoops and ducts you run into water getting sucked into the intake. The snorkel in the above pic looks like it wouldn't suck in a lot.
If you suck in a lot of water you will hydraulic the engine (ruin it instantly) and even a little isn't good. You also run into the problem of water coating the intake system (filter, tubes, manifold, intake ports) when you turn the engine off the heat from the engine turns the entire intake system into a sauna. This is very bad for the rings and cylinder sleeves. It boils down to if it was that easy Toyota would have done it. If you do it you will eventually find out why they didn't.
Venting the engine compartment might help as mentioned earlier.
Can an 08 MAF be installed on a 06-07?

LOL If you're sucking much water into that snorkle, then I suspect that you've got bigger problems to worry about...

Intake water re-routing

Look guys, this is a mainly STREET DRIVEN trucklet. I'm just wanting to make it quicker, not off-road worthy.

Somewhere in my garage I have a unit I bought for my '95 Maxima that keeps water from entering an aftermarket CAI system. Never installed it but it may be adaptable to a RAV4 CAI.

And, yes, I'll be putting an intake for any aftermarket CAI system in the grille area, likely the middle opening, to get air that's not quite as hot as the pavement.
Since I don't ever take my RAV off-road, only on rough roads, I'll likely never need a snorkle intake.

So back to upgrading my MAF to an '08 MAF. CAN IT BE DONE??

I don't know for certain with the RAV4. But I know with other vehicles I've had that when you upgrade the MAF (usually due to the new one's increased air flow range), you have to at least reprogram the ECU so it understands the new airflow range.
Like I said though, I don't know for certain with the RAV4, as I don't know what exactly is different between the MAFs.

MAF solution

I found and printed out the thread on MAF restriction tubes (it's at the end of the thread on WeaponR intakes). Good info on getting a 3" CAI tube to work with my '07 MAF.

Now I need to see If I can get the Camry K&N Typhoon intake converted into a CAI using the factory intake location. IT obviously requires a pre-bent section of 3" tubing and a connector/coupler flex hose.
