I have a 1996 AWD with 196K and I would like to move up to something a little newer and a few less miles. I don't like all of the electronics/computers on the newer models. All I really want is cruise control and A/C with a manual transmission. What is the best years to look at? I am more interested in functionality than appearance. Thanks for any input.

I recommend 2004-2005, and then 2009-2011 in the 3rd generation.

Can you still get a manual transmission in a RAV? If not, when did they quit making them? They seem kind of rare...

2006 and on have all been automatic(or eCVT in the Hybrid) in the US, but I think manual trans are available elsewhere in the world.
