At US and Canada's Toyota website and brochures, the fuel
consumption data for the RAV4 are different. Data on the 4WD:

toyota.com - US (mpg City / Highway)
I4 = 20 / 25
V6 = 19 / 26

toyota.ca - Canada (mpg City / Highway)
I4 = 28 / 36
V6 = 25 / 37

Anybody here knows the reason for the discrepancy :?: thnx. :)

The Canadian gallon (imperial) is larger :roll:
Courtesy of wiki.com -
One imperial gallon is approximately equal to 1.201 U.S. gallons.
One imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 litres, whereas one U.S. gallon is exactly 3.7854118 liters.

In Canada, mpg already has been officially replaced by the metric way of measuring fuel economy, litres per 100 km (L/100 km), but there are enough people out there of a certain age who still prefer mpg that they still often show the numbers in mpg as well.

unfortunately any car with a fuel economy readout in canada measures in this blasted L/100km. i do understand it now, but it has me constantly converting into MPG in my head. Both my subaru's had this.

Because our ground is colder cold gasoline is pumped into our RAVs and as we drive it keeps on expanding in the tank because of the warm air thus we get more volume so more mpg. In the winter our figures get closer due to the cold air.

As Canada eh! is the number one exporter of oil to the US you just keep the good stuff :mrgreen:

Top five exporters of oil to the US per the Energy Information Agency are:
1) Canada
2) Saudi Arabia
3) Mexico
4) Nigeria
5) Venezuela

On a serious note.. as stated in the above posts we calculate the numbers differently.
US = how many miles can you go on a gallon of gas (higher number is better)
Canada = how many liters does it take to go 100km (lower number is better)

www.toyota.ca shows

City

11.1L/100km
25mpg (Imperial)

converted to 21 mpg (US)

Highway

7.7L/100km
37mpg (Imperial)

converted to 31 mpg (US)

www.toyota.com shows

City

19mpg (US)

Highway

27mpg (US)

Are the Canadian models more fuel efficient for some reason?

Okay, the great debate continues... I live in Toronto, work in Pickering. I drive to and from work going against traffic. The speed on Hwy 401 far exceeds the test speeds, regardless of which lane I drive on (left lane is around 130 and right lane is around 110). I used to drive in the left lane exclusively, but now I try real hard to use the right lane. On the odd occaision that I have to drive around on city streets. I would be happy like a pig in mud if I can achieve 32 kmph average. Maximum posted speeds are either 50 or 60 kmph. I spend much more than 1/2 the time stopped at traffic lights. I just calculated my fuel consumption on my fill up tonight. About 70% of the travel is hwy 401 and 30% on country roads at 90 kmph. This is the best I can do to mirror what the lab calls highway driving. I got just under 31 miles per imperial gallon, 20% less than posted value. It is impossible/impractical to bridge that 20% gap. So, why tease me with something I cannot duplicate?
