I plugged in a 64GB memory stick into the USB media socket in my XLE and it would not recognize it. The same stick worked fine in my wife's Toyota C-HR. A 16GB stick did work in my XLE. Anyone else notice a limit in stick sizes?
Good to hear. I guess that since they don't state a limit, there is none. Other than file numbers.I'm using a 128 GB drive, formatted with FAT32. No problems at all.

How many files on that 128? How long does it take to index?
My wife has a 2016 RAVH and she has a 64 GB drive. I gave up on folders and just use root for all the 6000 files. I changed the` genre, album, etc to index the music. It works great until it wants to reindex, and then the wait begins. The darn thing does not reindex each time I turn the car back on, but it seems like it. I also have a 2018 RX 450hl and it is terrible. I tried the same approach as on the RAV, but it seems Lexus has a file limit of 255 in Root, so the memory stick is useless. I plugged in my old IPOD Classic and use that instead. It always works and I can get to Playlists via either the steering wheel controls or audio commands. Toyota/Lexus infotainment is from hell. I am not going to upgrade either vehicle until they go to Android/Apple Play.Resurrecting this thread just because its here.
The new head units support high resolution audio, FLAC, ALAC, WAV. But nowhere in the OM can I see any reference to how big a USB drive it will support, other than the 10K file limit and folder limits.
So, what's the biggest USB drive you have been able to use? I'm thinking about using something in the 256GB range.
If its anything like the previous years' head units, every time you restart the car it has to re-index the drive again - which takes time. During that period it cannot browse. If the drive has not changed since the last use, this period might be about 5 min depending on numbers. If the drive has changed at all, the indexing takes twice as long. The speed of the drive may or may not be a factor, but most USB thumb drives are notoriously slow.I'm using a 60 GB drive and it seems to work OK. The system seems a little laggy to load and browse, but that might be the unknown spec USB. I may switch to my 128 GB drive because I know the transfer rates are much better.
Anyone have a problem with the stereo not allowing you to browse the folders? I left the USB plugged in when I turned the car off. When I came back to the car and wanted to browse to a different Artist, it wouldn't let me. It just started playing the Artist in the first folder on the USB. Same thing with selecting an Album. I haven't researched it more to see if it continues to do that if I plug in the USB each time I want to listen.
Man, I sure do miss the SD card slot I had on my VW. That thing worked flawlessly every time.

Yes, in that you can always use USB3 drives in it. An SSD should work fine. Anything that presents itself as "mass storage device" and is formatted FAT32Does the 2019 RAV support USB3 ? How about portable SSD ?
Try a new USB stick.Mine is very strange, my USB plays ok on other cars but the Rav4. It plays the songs no problem, but around 50% of the time, it did not complete the whole song and jumped to the next. Anyone experiencing this strange problem?
