Using Smart key to open all windows & moon roof

:shrug:Asked one Toyota service department about this and they have no idea what I'm talking about.
I guess Quickdtoo would have a handle on this one so here goes.
Do I have to go to the dealer to program the smart key:nerd (car) or is there a downloadable program that permits final users to get into the brains of the car to program it?
It's usually hot where I live and I'd love to lower my windows w/out having to get aboard the car with all that heat.>:D
If the car is a Limited edition, how would I know if it also has the Remote start available?
I have checked these issues with the dealer:shrug:, but as they say, it's all new to us and we have no idea yet. I read it has to be programmed. Can't I do it?

Show them the owner's manual, page 159 of the .pdf version, it's also listed in the customization section page 686, this must be done with Techstream, possibly with Carista is Carista ever updates their programming. Mine was set as on instead of the default off during PDI cuz the tech hadn't done a '19 before.

The power windows can be
opened using the wireless remote
control.* (P.109)
â—ŹVehicles with alarm: The alarm
may be triggered if the alarm is set
and the power window is closed
using the door lock linked power
window operation function.
(ď‚®P.73)
*: These settings must be customized
at your Toyota dealer.

My dealer only allows one person to put a laptop on cars, ever. And that person is generally clueless about any specific car's systems.
A reasonably competent person, technologically, is far better off just getting the wireless OBD dongle and a tablet and dive in.

If the car has a cellphone data link and wifi capability, it should be possible to use the Entune apps to remote start and a few other things. This is detailed in the OM for the Entune and Nav systems. The caveat here is that all those things have to be enabled and running, with all the ramifications of that.

Edit to add: Do not rely on the OM "customization" section to be correct. Often they change what settings can be modified and don't update the manual.

Entune Remote Connect app can remote start, check status, lock/unlock, open/close windows and more, all by cellular connection and by wifi from the phone app, no apparently range limit other than the data connection limits to the vehicle, but it's a subscription service, after the 6 month trial it costs $8 a month or $80 a year plus tax. Remote start can also be done with the wireless remote within normal remote range, but the subscription needs to be maintained. Remote Connect is only available on Entune Audio Plus and Entune Premium w/Nav head units.

Thank you so much for your input Quickdtoo.
I'll keep you posted once I visit the dealer at my 1st. oil change.
Guess they'll lighten my wallet for the programming.

My dealer has always done complimentary customization changes at the first service visit, it won't hurt to ask, after all, how can they expect you to know everything that can be done, without reading the owner's manual which you get with the vehicle at the time of delivery, even most Toyota techs and sales people don't know everything that's customizable.

Thanks Rdgrimes. I will pursue this issue because it is a necessity here in the Caribbean. Cars get very
hot every day while parked, and it is a pain to get in a hot car even while leaving the windows a little cracked open.

I did it myself using Techstream and one of the knockoff Mini VCI cables they sell on Amazon. It took a while to get the software installed properly on my laptop but there are instructions out there if you Google for 'Techstream'. Also the first cable I bought was defective so I had to return it an buy a second one.

Do you have a model built for the US market? You show a Canadian flag. My understanding that Canadian market cars do not have Remote Connect which is apparently required for these functions. I have an AWD Limited, which has pretty much everything you can get here.

Called the dealer, he said:

They don't know what to say or do.
Is there a cost? Dunno
Anybody done it? Dunno
Can I do it? nope
All this grand accumulation of knowledge was shared with me after being on line for over 20 minutes, (was in a traffic jam anyway).
I'll just wait for the first complimentary check up and ask.
Advise to new owners, have them activate these systems before taking delivery of the vehicle, (if. you actually want them activated).
I'm not really interested in the Wifi or cell connection to open or close or turn on anything, just wanna open the car windows w/out getting inside that preheated seat in 90 degree heat.
PS, it has to be done by the dealer, according to the manual.

You are most likely correct.

I just had it done at my 5K. The service rep was helpful and she told me that she had the tech program both open and close. She put it as $43 labor but didn't charge me. Ehe was wondering if she could charge it to warranty. It turned out to only work for open. I asked to talk to the tech and he told me there was only an option for open. Open is fine for now. Anybody get it work for close?

Anybody get it work for close?
It's not an option listed in any Techstream menu for US spec vehicles, Mexico and other countries do have the option.

Just get a carista. It's $20, you get 1 month of unlocked features for free, which includes the window customization, among many others. You probably wont need to do customization again after that. Then, you can just use it as a typical OBD2 readers to read/reset your codes. Good to have on hand anyway.

I don’t believe there is any remote window close feature or option available, at all, period. Not as part of the stock Toyota Rav4 anyway. Remote open is the only available option.
You can close the windows using the mechanical key inserted into the door lock, that’s about as “remote” as window close control will get.

Can Carrista or a "windows control module" be added to do all this stuff - the local stealerships are sketchy - charging over $120 to program the fob..... i see entune you will have to maintain an account & subscription - is that the same with carrista - if i get carrista & modify the settings will they revert back if i disconnect the dongle or opt to discontinue the subscription?

is there any other aftermarket way of opening and closing windows via fob?

The Carista app with a Bluetooth OBD reader can turn on “Windows + Sunroof Open” by long-press Door-Unlock on FOB (USA 2021 Rav4 Prime XSE, used Carista Beta app). Other regions in the world get close function (by long-press Door-Lock on FOB, not USA). You can also activate (same app) the function to use the physical key in door to Open or Close Windows + Sunroof by turning key and holding lock or unlock.

Did I see these options available in the free Dr. Prius app?

I already had an OBD reader and read that the Carista software could be downloaded and would work with several different OBD readers besides theirs. It worked fine and you can cancel the subscription within a week and not owe anything. I used it to set the windows and moon roof to open with the keyfob. My understanding is that places other than the US will allow you to also close the windows and moon roof with the keyfob, but apparently we are too accident prone (or too litigious) to be trusted with so much power. As others have said, you can raise all the windows and close the moon roof with your key, but my primary interest was to ventilate a hot car as I was approaching it in the parking lot.

So yes, you can enable the window/moon roof lowering feature with an OBD reader and the Carista software if you have a 2021 RAV4 Prime SE or a Lexus RX350 (which are the only two I've tried so far).

I also changed the number of flashes for a soft press of the turn signal indicator, as well at the amount of time the inside lights stay on unless I put the car in READY mode.

You might get help from your dealer programming the options if you're lucky. I got a deer in the headlights stare, when I asked about it. I even showed him the section in the owner's manual that listed the programmable options. That just produced more deer/headlight staring.
