EVs are one of the hottest topics in the automotive industry, and if recent trends are any indication, they are only going to get hotter.
While EV adoption rates rise, there is still some hesitation by some to move into the space, a lot of which can be attributed to long-standing misconceptions and myths. So, we used the 2023 Toyota bZ4x to tackle the 5 biggest myths in this educational piece. Watch the full video below.
This is a riot!
#1 Rav4 hybrids are NOWHERE near as capable as gas powered TRD's... Heck, I had to pull a Rav4 Hybrid out of the snow- it couldn't even make it down the road in snow, let alone off road! Their AWD in the hybrids SUCK -you can feel the tires spin before it kicks in. It is the EXACT opposite in my TRD -ZERO SLIP (or should I say, "No perceivable slip" observed from this operator/23 year veteran pilot/solar installer electrician; my job is literally to feel oddities in vehicles, and it WAS literally to understand Alternative power production facilities, like Solar PV)
#2 -The only possible way that Toyota can meet ZERO (TRULY ZERO CO2 emissions) is to stop making cars. While EV's produce far less, the production of electricity (even from Solar) produces CO2. (It takes about 70% of the energy that they will put out in their lifetime, to produce a solar PV panel)... EV's are NOT CO2 FREE, but they do only produce about 1/3 the CO2 emissions as a gas powered equivalent.
Conclusion: While EV's ARE AWESOME, and I vehemently believe that PV+EV=Future, EV's have a LONG LONG LOOOOONG way to go before they are anywhere as capable as a regular gas powered vehicles, mainly off road. I DO HOPE (sincerely) that they get there. I would love to have an EV off road beast, but I also can't find an EV anywhere near in price that can compete with my Rav4 TRD... The closest might be the Tesla truck (HIDEOUS) at well over TWICE the price (SO ok this is point #3 where this guy is wrong).
ANYWAY- end rant...
