Hello Guys
I am driving a 2007 Rav4 Sport V6.
The car has started to act funny recently.
VSC, ABS and occasionally 4WD lights are coming on.
the RPM is messing up while the engine is steady. (The indicator is flickering and going back to 0 while the car is on and engine is smooth).
The oil cap has no problems, I went 3 times to Toyota, they don't know what is the issue. All systems are working well.
They said they can replace the computer system (think its name is EPG) but they are NOT SURE that this would solve the problem.
Have you even encountered an issue like this? Any proposed solution?
I worked really hard to buy that car, I cannot afford replacing a computer, the car drives great and I went to Niagara Falls and back from Montreal (around 2000 Km in 3 days and I never faced a problem).
Of course 4WD lock does not work while VSC and ABS are ON.

thanks

When those lights are on AND the CEL isn't, codes are set in the Skid Control ECU. I they didn't read those they are totally inept. Often the fault is a ABS wheel sensor.

As Dr. Dyno said take your car to a competent mechanic that know how to read codes properly. Preferably a Japanese or import specialist. These are not trouble codes which are read differently. Don't sweat it if you need to replace a ABS wheel sensor.

Hello Dr. Dyno and DL175:
Today the car gave me 2 new additional lights, 4*4 lock and 4WD. So total is 4 lights on now. I am attaching a picture.
Last replacement made on the car was the oxigen sensor.
Error codes on the car as per the dealer:

P 0051 --> solved by replacing B2 S1 Oxgygen sensor.

C 1201

C 1280

C 1233

C 1298

C 1223

U 0073

U 0100

U 0126

U 0129

U 0105

All systems are checked and they did not find any mechanical problem --> they are proposing to replace the ECU but with NO GUARANTEE that this would solve the problem.

Hope this clarifies the problem now that we know the error codes. the car is running perfectly. but with a dashboard full of lights.
as i mentioned before, the RPM sensor is also flickering (sometimes), and the light of hand break sometimes flicker as well.

I attached dashboard picture and codes. the wire stated has been completely replaced. All repairs and scanning are done at Toyota Canada.

what is your advice?

thanks a lot for your support.

Rami

Rami is requesting follow up on VSC, ABS warnings. Do other members have input?

The basic procedure here is to reset all the codes and see what comes back. Since the dealer apparently didn't do that, either due to ineptness or to try to keep you coming back, you'll need to take things into your own hands. But that's easy to do.
Start with post 2 here: http://www.rav4world.com/forums/99-4-3-mechanical/85765-check-engine-light-vsc-4wd-lights-explained-14.html
It's well written but CEL-on related info is mixed in with CEL-off which is your case. Where he's talking about fuses doesn't apply to you. Using the jumper pictured and tapping the brake pedal 8 times does. The lights may very well go off for good w/o doing anything else.

Tried it, still not working

Hello Dr. Dyno
I tried both the fuses solution along with the reset with 8 to 10 break pedal press.
Still have the same problem.
I have captured a short video about it. but i am not able to upload it. let me know if there is anyway i can send it over.

following are a couple of observations:

1- Upon ignition the lights of 4WD and 4WD lock are not coming on during the normal system start up.

2- it is really a strange behavior for the RPM meter. (flickering and going back to 0 while the car is moving and the engine is working smoothly).

any additional recommendation in light of the above?

thanks
Rami

here are a couple of pictures i took from the video.

1- No 4WD and 4WD Lock lights coming on start up.

2- RPM indicator fall to 0 while the car is running.

Just thinking out loud here, when I had a ford taurus and the rpm changed like you are describing, it was a bad coil. But I would think it would throw some sort of code...just a thought. Dr. Dyno, your thoughts?

Hello Team:
Went today for a fresh scan.

1- VSC and ABS lights are ON.

2- RPM indicator is not stable.

3- Error codes: C1223 U0126 U0100 U0123 U0124

let me know what you think please. Mechanic said all sensors are fine, the only way is to track each single wire which is a huge amount of work and money.

For the mean time, the car is crippled with no 4WD and ABS.

thank you in advance.

The first error code C1223 is for the Skid control ECU, the others U codes are all for different modules. I found all the U codes here: https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/obd-ii-u-network-codes.php

I would say follow the error code for the Skid control ECU. However I am not sure what to try, as it is probably fairly expensive to replace the ECU.
