It would have been SO nice if the RAV4 had came with a LO gear range and lockable center diff from factory. I've never pulled a trailer with my RAV4; but I can easily understand how it feels going steep hills being heavily loaded. Each vehicle have their own limits.... but rarely are the owners that drive to these limits!!!
I'm really missing the low range on my 3rd gen, i'm looking for stroking my 1AZ to the 2AZ using the revised toyota pistons and ring, and the crankshaft, but my engine functions so good and sweet that also feels like a bad idea opening a good working engine... but i really wish more down low... the charcoal filter delete (inside the stock 3rd gen airbox) gave me a good extra that only make me wish a little more...

or a shorter 1st aswell.... i'm also very interested to know how it will perform with a slightly bigger tire.

Hey commando,
I finally got my 2" King Spring lift in, and my 40mm front and rear spacers.
I now have a pretty obvious vibration between 60kph-90kph under acceleration.

Did you experience any vibrations at any speeds? Do you think a subframe drop in the rear may even out that ?

I believe it might be binding of my rear axels, as the vibration seems to be behind me when driving (I can feel it in the base of the seat)

thoughts?

I had a small vibration since the first day of purchase, when my RAV4 was completely stock. It did not get worse with the lift. I've tried to change almost everything and it never changed. My vibration is very small and between 95-105 km/h.

Some vibration is a common secondary effect to many lifted vehicle with cv axles. You may try to lower your rear subframe and driving-shaft support a bit to see if it helps.

So, @Commando, I got my 1ar running started so it's time for me to seriously look at the 4wd mech. Just going to run it AWD until I figure that out. Where did you get the connector for dorman 600-101? I can't seem to find the connector on its own, only in some complete wiring harness for the truck. Since I need to integrate it into my existing harness I'd prefer to buy the plug separate if possible.

I wanted to buy the OME lift kit, but at this time 850$ (Canada) was not in my budget. So I saw a very cheap kit on ebay, and bought it. When I received it, I was not sure how long the front strut spacers would last... but finally I still don't have any problem. If they break, I will make a copy in aluminum... but 2 inches instead of 40mm.

Hey, I purchased this same lift kit and have a question! I can't find info on how the rear coil spacers go on correctly. Any help is much appreciated!

Hey guys! Little update from my trip in Africa (still ongoing, 6000km+)! So far, I rarely had to use the rear mag diff locker, in sand a few times just to be sure I wouldn't dig myself in in tricky situations, but I might have done it without! The rav is a tractor, with tyres at 0.9bar and the VSC/TRC disabled, it is really hard to burry it in sand. I haven't had the chance to go on mud, but it would probably make a lot of sense to use it there.
The 3mm steel skid plate has been used and abused, I think nobody should underestimate the necessity of this protective piece. Sometimes I would hit the ground thinking I wouldn't, but when the car is moving, the suspension is working and the ground clearance becomes dynamic and do vary.
The added 40mm PU suspension spacers from ebay also help keeping these evil stones away from my unprotected subframe. One thing though, I do hit the bottom of my rear suspensions often in bumpy roads because of the weight (I carry 500kg+ when fully laden) and also probably because the original coils are corroded and old (19y!).
The 40% stronger clutch was also very helpful to get all the power to the wheels. With the original one I had been slipping previously quite a few times, never happened since the upgrade.
If you're interested, you can follow me on instagram (swissnomadic), it's a private account, so mention you're from rav4world :)

I'm happy everything is going well during your trip PhoenixII! It would be interesting if you start your own build thread with pictures of your trip on the forum (I'm not on instagram).

Do you remember which brand and vehicle application you used for your upgraded clutch kit? .

Hi Commando! Yes, I installed the cheap excedy clutch kit with a throw-out bearing from another brand (which had nsk bearings I remember).

I am sorry but I will stay on insta for photos and videos, takes me already a lot of energy and time to build something there.

Did you bought an Exedy clutch-kit listed for a RAV4 or Alltrac/GT4 Celica?

I bought that 2001 RAV4 in October, and I laid it in the backyard of the shop where I work, because I did not need it until past week-end.

I was not a fan of the grey colored bumpers and door trims, so I painted everything in black with a spray can.

It is completely stock, except the 225/75/16 tires. Sadly it has the 2.0L engine mated to an automatic transmission. So I'm under the impression that I'm driving a totally different vehicle than my previous RAV4 haha!!!! It's very weird.... I still need more time for adaptation. Even with the bigger and heavier tires, my 2.4L with manual transmission had much more throttle response and acceleration... and even with the 3.5'' lift and sway-bars delete; it had better handling. BUT despite this RAV4 was not driven for the last two years; I'm pretty impressed how it still drives good. I plan to use it only for about two or three months... by the time I will be moving all my mods into my next RAV4. I hope the blue RAV4 will be ready to hit the road (and off road ;) ) before next summer.

Mine also has the silver/grey side mouldings and bumpers. I wish they were blue like the body. I also need to locate one of those bug deflectors like you have on the blue car. I have a bunch of little dents right there from previous ownership that I need to hide. Lol
