I’ve been wanting to do this too. Did you pry the panel out from the front or do you push it out from the back somehow? And thanks for the Dremel tip. Why did they have to key them? Ugh.
Open the driver door and you'll see a seam where the plastic panel meets the one further into the dash. I worked a plastic trim tool into that seam and gently pried it open until I could get a decent grip on the door side and from underneath the steering column, then just firmly (and carefully) pulled it towards the seat. There were 3-4 clips that will pop out and release the top for a workspace, and it will clip back together when you're done.

I started with a knife for the keys but they didn't shave off very well, the plastic is pretty tough. Took probably under a minute each with the Dremel; if I worked it with a blade I'd have been there all night.

Nice. What's the ground clearance with that? Mind posting a link to it?

I found this shoved into one of the blanks...no idea what it does. I have the cold weather pack and no power liftgate; anyone know what it might be? There are two blanks so what options am I missing in this area that it might control? If I can get an extra feature for the cost of a switch I'd probably do it. Ejector seat maybe? Ludicrous Speed?

Many Toyotas use general wire harnesses that come prewired for optional features, just the other end of the harness is missing the specific gizmo/relays etc.

I replaced that trim piece in mine several pages back in this thread and my Limited does not have the weather or tech packages but I had the harnesses back there for the heated steering wheel and heated windshield just plugged into the button blanks, but curiously not the birds eye camera button.

In my 2019 XLE when I still had it, I installed the center cubby OEM blue LED and when I had the console apart I also had the harnesses back there for the heated seats, however mine did not have that option.

Which blank did you unplug that from? If it was the far right one, it is for the power back door, if it was the blank near the middle it is for the birds eye camera.

Hey, do you happen to have a picture of where you trimmed to prevent the rubbing and how much of it trimmed off?

I couldn’t help myself! I posted this in a specific 4.5 interior thread but I would love to kno what you guys think!

two weeks ago I sold my trusty rav4 2007 V6…

To handel the loss I just had to buy something else. Obviously. I bought a 2nd hand white bi-tone 2020 rav4 hybrid FWD with 15k miles. Happy as a clam!!

Today I had a lovely install day.
I replaced the broken rear cover plate with a new one! Took me an hour and was surpisingly doable thank to all the excellent youtube material out there!

After that I installed the JL-audio C2-350x speakers in the dash and the C2-650x speakers in the front doors. Added some silentcoat 2mm sounddeadening in the doors and on the backside of the door trim.

It took me about half a day, including soldering switchable plugs on the red wolf wire harness for the dash and relocating the SOS speaker from the right dash speaker to the glovecompartment. Sun was out and just a very nice time for me.

Sound wise:
The sound is fuller and cleaner but is a bit underwhelming to be honest. I love the new reassuring dull thud the front doors make after the install!
I have the non JBL system so I lack a sub.

Would I do it again? Yes, definitely! Just do not expect some mega wow moment.

Any and all tips are most welcome!

Front liner trimmed less than ½". Dremel works well to contour the cut (not a straight cut across).
Mud flap cut off the inside portion.
Both were trim/test, trim/test, until no rub at full wheel lock both ways.

I installed the Gen 4 RAV4's OEM cargo net since Toyota only makes spider net for 5th gen. It fits perfectly, but you'll need to use carabiners, zip ties or any clip in order to secure the upper loops. You can only install it behind the rear seats, if you want to install it at the opening of the cargo hatch you'll have to drill holes and install screw-in hooks since Toyota didn't include the tie-downs on top.

It looks great that way, but it was designed to use the 4 bottom hooks. It lays flat on the floor and you can put your grocery bags under it or stuff in between the envelope of the net. Either way I may use it like this sometimes too now. Thanks for sharing (y)

I think that's this one, I couldn't find an envelope style for the 5th Gen, only this spider net.
