I'm installing driving lights and I started looking into the the dash end of things. While I pulled the aux switch slot I saw this plug sitting behind it. My MY is a 1999. What is this plug for? Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. Which is the best switch to use? It seems the one I got isn't going to mate up to the connector. I did some looking online and it looks as if our vehicles didnt come with fogs, at least in America. Thanks for the help.
After many years of research on the topic, I'm convinced that you wouldn't find the "proper (mating to that connector)" switch, even if you could travel back in 1999!
Just cut the connector off and wire a switch of your choosing (red with silver dots is "signal to relay", white with black stripe is "ground for the switch").
You can choose a generic radioshack switch or a generic Toyota rocker switch (#00550-35976 and #00550-42966):
Keep in mind though, that for the latter "OEM-style" choices, you will also have to tap to the dash illumination wires, in order for the "fog light icon" to become back-lit when you switch on your parking lights.
Even if you found a mating switch, the other end of that is not connected to anything.
Toyota uses the same wiring harness in multiple vehicles.
This can sometimes be convenient because optional items can be installed quickly in your driveway... on Canadian-built Rav 4.4, installing the TVIP systems takes about 10 minutes to install both the alarm brain and the glass breakage sensor.
Same goes for installing factory fog lights in SOME models not equipped, cruise control on the regular cab Tacoma, etc....
