After picking up my 2021 Prime SE with weather/moonroof pkg, I had a list of things that I wanted to add for protection, durability, and ease of use for myself and my canine family members. Luckily since I bought it at MSRP I had some wiggle room in the budget to do this. Thought I'd share what I put on my vehicle in case anyone else wanted to know where I got them.

DOG PROOFING

I have a 70lb husky/malamute and often haul my friend's husky along with him to dog parks and camping trips. This required a bit of thinking for protecting the interior of the car and securing them in the cargo area when there are more than 2 people traveling with us. I have yet to find something to protect the interior plastic of the hatch door from excited puppy nails looking out the window, but the hunt is on.

Backseat door dog guards: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0896WQJZW
Pet cargo barrier: Travall Guard
Cargo trunk pet liner: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L4TYGX4
Dog hair remover: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0764MC2ZH

EXTERIOR UPGRADES

I road trip a lot, and wanted to add a few more things on top of the stock weather package to protect from small rocks kicking up and the constant stepping in/out of the car.

Grill guard/radiator screen: RAV4STUFF
Toyota RAV4 door sill protectors: 2021 Toyota RAV4 Door Sill Protectors - PK38242K01 - Genuine Toyota Accessory
Ceramic coating over the entire car: (I'll do this next month, lots of bugs in Missouri and I want to really protect that paint and eliminate waxing)

INTERIOR UPGRADES

I needed to protect the cloth seats from dogs if they rode in the backseat, and upgrading to real leather made me nervous about possibly scratching it. Thanks to this forum I found really well-fitted seat covers that look OEM - even the Toyota parts guy was surprised how good it looked. I needed it to be brighter inside, so these LEDs did the trick and then I added a few more cabin accessories that also match the stock look.

Interior LED light kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0834MJ2L3
Leatherette fitted seat covers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082PV1VGN
Center console tray: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08P5YQV3N/
Center console cover: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0896WQJZW
Passenger side wastebin: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LMMXTV6

TECH UPGRADES

I almost bought a Tesla (and watch my fair share of Wham Bam Teslacam), so the lack of a dashcam was concerning to me on my new car. After falling down a black hole of 12v battery vs the big hybrid battery, how they get charged and how a dashcam might drain them, etc - I settled on a security camera system that is powered by an external battery pack, and that pack is charged only when the car is on and you are driving it. This way I get to use parking mode without killing the car. I also got an adapter so I could stop at a Tesla charger on a camping trip if necessary. I chose a 240v home charger that would be able to do shared charging for multiple EVs in the future.

3 channel camera system (front/rear/interior): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08QCM7FL1
Dashcam parking mode battery pack: BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 Dash Cam Battery Pack
256GB memory card for dashcam: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0887P21Z2
Tesla Charger adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HGQK323
Level 2 240v EVSE home charger: https://www.amazon.com/Pulsar-Level-Electric-Vehicle-Charger/dp/B08H2LYFHX

That's it for now! As I start camping in the spring I am sure I'll find a few more things to add

What have you have added that works really well?

I immediately bought and installed:

1) interior LEDs ($15 kit on Amazon)
2) Tuxmat floor liners for front and rear
3) OEM cargo liner (which covers back of rear seats)
4) Dashcam and hardwiring kit
5) some bungee cords in the back to make a sort of flexible cargo retaining system.

Very happy with all of them!

As an FYI, I just ordered that exact one @generaltso provided a link to, but direct from Lectron. It's on sale for $129.99 (vs. $159.99 at Amazon), and you can get another 5% if you sign up for the newsletter. :)
There's actually a 10% coupon that stacks with the $129.99 sale making it $117. I just bought one.

My Prime isn't even here, but I should have it soon! Here's the list of things I already purchased:
  • OEM Tow Hitch
  • OEM Roof Rack
  • OEM Mudguards
  • OEM RAV4 Headlight Gasket Seals (more discussion on this here)
  • Custom Cut Screen Protector
  • 14-50 outlet installed in garage
  • ChargePoint Flex 14-50 plug-in (local utility had $500 instant off!)
  • Garmin 57 Dash Cam
  • Lectron Tesla to J1772 Adapter
  • Energizer 2450 coin backup remote batteries.
Stuff I already had from previous car:
  • Leatherman Charge TTi multitool
  • First Aid Kit
  • External Battery Charger / Jumper
  • WeatherTech bump frame for front license plate
  • Silicon license plate holder for back plate
Things I want to buy/get:
  • 14-50 to 5-15 plug adapter. Like the EVDoubler, so I can get faster charge with OEM charger when I'm traveling and have access to a 14-50 plug.
  • Xpel Paint Protection on front bumper, hood, and side fenders
  • OEM Touchup Paint
  • Center Console Organizer
  • Grill / Radiator guard. Will probably just DIY and make my own.

If you're looking for a perfect fit glass screen protector, this one fits the R4P XSE perfectly (even though it says it's for a Camry): https://www.amazon.com/TTCR-II-Navigation-Protector-Touchscreen-Protective/dp/B09F95GYRD/?th=1

Thanks, I wasn't sure if the XSE onese fit good w/o air bubbles so I went with a custom cut / high quality film one. I used the one I linked to in the past on my 4Runner and it worked out great. It kind of has a matte look to it and helps on sunny days with the glare. I saved the one you linked to just in case the one I had cut doesn't work out.

Can you take a photo of how it turned out on your XSE w/9" screen? I haven't seen good customer photos of a 9" screen protector on Amazon.

Any Dashcam that uses a removable memory card REALLY NEEDS to use the "High Endurance" type card. Why? These cards are designed to survive the CONSTANT WRITES that dash/remote surveillance video cameras do. The regular memory cards were NEVER designed for the constant writes (esp if you set the dash cam to record when the car is off). You won't appreciate this until you need to retrieve video footage, but can't due to bad sector(s).

I would stick w/:
Samsung PRO Endurance line.
SanDisk MAX Endurance OR High Endurance line.
Kingston Endurance.
All others are cheap/imitation knock offs.

As for dashcams, I'm a fan of BlackVue. Trendsetter and solid features. Various price points depending on what features you want. True 4K recording; u like others that use upscale software on a lower resolution image sensor, to "digitize" a non-4k sensor into pseudo 4k.

Hello SirenEye -- you may find a few of these Upgrades and Mods as ones to consider -- I have a 2021 XLE Hybrid Premium, so some of these may not be applicable to your ride as you may already have them as standard equipment.

I've been compiling this list for a few months

Here goes nothing -------

Door “bowl” lights – a terrific and classy addition
You might already have these on the Prime – if not:

Wireless charger tray – a very easy install – I opened the tray and unsoldered one of the leads that connect to the wireless charging circuit as I didn’t want this feature. I did try out the wireless charger when I first installed the tray and it does charge the phone; however when I use Android Auto the phone gets charged – my guess is that I’m prbly the only person who bought a wireless charging tray for it’s other features: voltage readout, USB C and quick charge USB A. I made a template and cut the non-slip mat to fit the tray’s smooth surface which worked out quite nicely --- you can also find these ebay just make sure it is one that dznt ship from China

Car Vehicle Gear shift Satellite radio Steering part

non slip mat – I cut it to fit the Wireless Charging Tray (above)

3.0 USB A to USB C short charging cable – inexpensive and works with Android Auto (many cables don’t) – I use the cable with the 3.0 USB 4 port splitter to connect to my phone -- NOTE: many AndAuto problems can be traced back to faulty cables

USB 3.0 4 Port Hub Splitter – let’s me keep my phone connected via Android Auto ….. And keep a USB stick containing MP3s plugged in – Note: Android Auto takes precedence over the USB stick – the audio system designers chose not to let two devices share the data port and also made the stupid decision not to include two data ports and an Aux in port – anyway, this makes things pretty convenient

Steering wheel cover – my Premium came thru with a “leather” steering wheel covering; however it felt a bit skimpy and I had one of these on my last ride and liked the feel and look

Steering Wheel BlackOut Emblem -- google around as sellers for these (etsy & ebay) come and go -- you can often find these for under $25

-- here is one for $15.00 including shipping

Ebay Steering Wheel Blackout Emblem

Wheel Tire Vehicle Land vehicle Car

Fast charger – cigarette lighter style

Front & Back Mats $130 – SmartLiner Custom Fit for Rav4 Hybrid. I’d put these up against Weather Tech for fit, finish and quality (you might need different ones for the Prime)

Fumoto F133s if you enjoy doing your own oil changes this valve makes it a breeze

USED Gentex GNTX-455 Auto Dimming Mirror w/Compass – these are all over Ebay – I wanted one with auto dim and compass, I didn’t need a Homelink feature; however there are a ton with Homelink – that ebay link below is probably pretty stale by now – this is an easy install.

GENMM5 Mirror extension mount adapter – you WILL need one of these if you put in a mirror – search ebay for a half way decent price – they are overpriced at $30 list – ebay is the usually the best price

Gentex Mirror Adapter on Ebay

Illuminated window switches – there are many threads on this upgrade – if you want to do the front passenger door and rear doors you’ll want the entire set – plugNplay with wiring harness – follow the video – super easy to install – the Prime may already have illuminated switches

USED 2016 Toyota Camry Door Lock Window Switch Right Side ---- iIf you want a front passenger door illuminated lock switch – your best bet is used on ebay – I bought one from a 2016 Camry and it worked fine – same color blue as the Rav4 – many sellers sell the entire armrest assy that includes a window switch for btwn $25-$30 shipping included

USB Fast Charger -- dash mounted – replaces the right side blank that is under the climate control – you can also find these on ebay – the trick is finding one that dznt ship from China – good luck on that – an easy install

Headlight Lens Seal (Left) - Toyota Part No. (81157-42830)
Headlight Lens Seal (Right) - Toyota Part No. (81117-42830) --- there are various threads about adding these seals -- a very simple install if you want to do it -- search the forum if you want more info -- NOTE: two part numbers -- one for the left side and one for the right side

Back Lit Mirror switch for drivers side door:

84872-30070 – Expensive and not easy to source; but very easy to install. This switch matches and completes the other illuminated switches. I bought mine from jp-carparts.com -- $59.45 + DHL quick shipping (which only took a few days) $22..00 + 4% PayPal fee $3.26 for a total of $84.71 (youch)

Camera lens Digital camera Camera accessory Gadget Cameras & optics

Door Molding to match the vehicle color

These folks had the molding at a decent price:

Toyota RAV4 Body Side Moldings - (070) - Blizzard Pearl - PT9384219020 | Springhill Toyota, Mobile AL

Labelectomy:

I removed the yellow warning labels from the visors – here’s the step by step for this mod w/fotos -- if you go this route do it before the sun starts to discolor the visors -- I did this shortly after I got the Hybrid

Disabled VSS Mode:

Motor vehicle Steering part Automotive tire Automotive design Vehicle door

This little operation permits the VSS circuit to be turned Off (and back On). When the VSS is "off", you can search files on a USB stick, as well as input info into the GPS (ie: WAZE) while the car is in motion – a pretty handy mod

Door Edge Guard Molding

I like this type – no adhesive and locks on tightly – combination rubber and stainless; simple to apply and follows the curves without bunching up -- this is an ebay link -- various colors, lengths and prices.
