My 2011 RAV4 has 70K mil. I keep it in the good shape until my wife hit he curb on the snowday. Now it needs both Wheel bearing and hub assembly replacement on the front passenger side. My mechanic surprisingly told me to replace just the bad one. Do I have to replace in a pair like brake pads/rotors?

Thanks

I agree with the mechanic. Since wheel bearings aren't normal wear items like brake parts, they only need replacement when they get damaged as your right front one did. Otherwise they last the life of the vehicle unless something like deep water damages them.

Brake pads and tires are wear items - you replace them in pairs so they maintain balance as they wear down.

I am no pro mechanic, but I had to replace wheel bearings (on a different vehicle, not RAV4) a few times unfortunately, and I only replaced the defective ones since they are not wear items requiring balance. Well, at least they were not supposed to be. :p
