Wheel interchangeability?

Hey - we have one of the most flexible platforms for wheel interchange. Your magic number is 5x114.3mm or 5x4.5” with 37-43mm offset. A lesser point is the centre bore (hub diameter) of 60.1mm.

You can run aluminum wheels in any size from 16” to 20” from SO many manufacturers. You are not limited to RAV4 wheels (although you certainly can use them). We have members running the 2002 Mustang Bullitt American Racing Torq Thrust D wheels, some using Lexus wheels or those excellent 20” Venza wheels, and I’ve used wheels from a Ranger and a Nissan Rogue, and am currently running RTX aftermarket wheels for my snow tires, with Pontiac Vibe GT 17” wheels for my summers. These are the ones in my profile pic. The sky is the limit.

My M.O. is to prowl the online classifieds for good deals on good condition wheels, and snap them up when they appear. The RTX and Vibe wheels were free as the owners were giving them away. If you’re patient, and quick when they show up, you can pretty much have your pick. It’s easy to get a set of wheels (usually still have shot tires) for $200+ in great shape. 17’s are plentiful, and usually quite affordable. Just remember that with any Toyota OEM aluminum wheels your lug nuts will NOT work - you need the mag style lug nuts with the flange and washer, instead of the Acorn type you have. Most wheels from other makers will work fine with your stock lug nuts.

Good luck, and send us pictures when you get them on!

Excellent. Thanks Sir. I appreciate the help. Would tire shops that also do auto repair work have the capability to program the new tpms to my car's system or is that a dealer only item? Thanks.

Will do on the pics when I get the wheels. Can't wait. I'm not a fan of the steels at all. I was just very suprised at the lack of availability of 17" aluminum OEM wheels in junkyards. I guess many came with the steel wheels? Or there are many of these cars still on the road and not in the yards yet.
You’re best to ask a general repair shop if they are set up to reprogram Toyota TPMS sensors before ordering parts.

As for OEM 17” RAV4 wheels, only the 6-spoke wheels from the Limited model were available. We had 16” black steelies with covers, the silver 17” steelies you have, the 17” aluminum from the Limited, and the 18” from the Sport. As there were far fewer Limited models, and most are still on the road, pickings are slim everywhere.

But you can use darn near anything else!

Hey guys,

Will the wheels of the 4.4 bolt right on my 2007? I would imagine they are much more plentiful. Did they make them in a 17" alloy? I saw a 4.4 today and from a distance the bolt pattern looked very similar.

Thanks,
G
Yes. Direct replacement fit. Many 4.4s in my area are running the 17” silver steel 4.3 wheels for snow tires.

You’re quite welcome, and happy hunting! Remember, the 18” wheels from the Trail/Adventure models fit too, and if you’re near SoCal, the classifieds here on the forum are lousy with 4.5 owners selling their stock wheels.

Btw if you’re in Southern Ontario, there’s a guy selling 18” sport wheels with Michelin tires in London. My wife said no so they are still available!

Reading thru all the wheels post the last couple nights , lots of good info here from Foryota and others,

One thing I have not seen, are the black steelies 17's off a C-Hr compatible? .. Numbers look to be exact as posted by the seller

Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3
Hub Size: 60.1mm
Rim Size 6.5"x17"
ET: 45

But the pic of the rims I am looking t have the number 56 stamped above the bore and if thats the bore number, they will not fit. Thoughts ?

Rims are 1/2 thinner than the Stock silver rusty steals I have running stock size tires.

They come with the acorn lugs, thats a plus, They are newer take offs and a good price,

I like the look of the black hole steelies , had them on my 3rd gen 4runner, but I want the 17's...can get them all day long in 16's but my tires are good and I am going to replace the TPMS as a preventive maintenance.

Thoughts on what I may be missing here on fitting a 2011 Rav4 4cyl base 4WD ?

Thanx,, First Rav4, had 2 3rd gen 4Runners previously,,, Amazing cargo space in these,,,Seems to be a smart move over to the Rav,
If you’re dead set on steelies, yes the wheels from a C-HR should fit - all the vital measurements are the same between vehicles. They should sit similarly to the stock silver steelies.

Do note though that Toyota used 6.5” wide wheels with only 215 width tires, not the 225s - those have gone on 7” wide wheels. 225 on a 6.5” wheel will result in a bit of ballooning, where the tread face is more rounded. You may need to play with the tire pressures (reducing a bit below 32 psi) to get the right contact patch, or you could end up with premature wear in the middle of the tread.

I’d keep my eyes open for a nice set of aluminums still, but your ride, your call. You can also look for 17” steel wheels for a Nissan Rogue or similar if you’re hung up on them. These should be available in a wider size wheel, and they have a larger hub, so it will fit lugcentric or you can get an adaptor ring.

My resource is www.wheel-size.com

you can plug in the make model and year and find all of the stock listed OEM sizes in one place.

Thank You,, Thats what I was thinking, they would be a bit too big on the the thinner rim,, I do like the look of the black hole wheels,,,but I want to stay with 17s, Thanx for the tip on the Roque, In SE PA, not a lot of wheels show up on CL for the Gen 4.3 .. Appreciate all the info,,
I’ve found many ads simply list “5x114.3” or “5x4.5” for compatibility. With our small hub size, we can fit SO many other brands’ wheels. We have very few restrictions - only some Honda wheels don’t fit. So they say, size matters [emoji38]

If your classifieds search includes those numbers above (usually the metric) you should get good hits, regardless of where you are

So it looks as if the 2014-2020 17 x 7 Nissan Rogue Steel Wheel could fit

Bore is 67, so I just need to adapt it down to 60

Bolt patter is 5x114.3mm.

Offset is 50 so that seems to be in range

Thanx for that info, that opens the search

Keep my tires is key here, they re in great shape, tho original TPMS , so those get replaced, Seems like the Denso's from rock auto are the "OEM"
Sounds like a plan! So you know, I ran 16x7” steelies for a winter which had a 73mm bore. Ran lugcentric without a hub spacer, and was fine, no issues. YMMV [emoji846]

No worries, thanks. I played with that website you linked and found it there.

Someone local has some wheels off of a 2019 rav4, 19" , from what I saw on that website, those would work, right? I'm not a huge fan of them and they have no tpms sensors for some reason, yet have tires on them, but they look nice. More than I want to spend though.

Would Mazda 17s work? I assume I'd need the year? The ad didn't say I'll have to ask. Thanks.
All newer RAV4 wheels should work with any 4.3.

As for Mazda, it depends on the model. Some have 5x114.3 as we do, and others have the Volvo type 5x108. You’ll need to know the specific model they came from. Offset is another concern.

Thanks man. I also found some from a Nissan which state they have a 5x114.3 bolt pattern. Those should work, right? I've asked the seller what year, make, model they came off of.

Thanks again!
Should be fine. As I mentioned elsewhere I ran snows one year which had been on a Rogue. Turns out they were actually built for a Ranger. Fit like a glove, other than the ridiculous gap around the hub. I ran without a spacer, using the tapers on the lugnuts to carefully position the wheel, and it worked fine for me. For folks not as comfortable as I with doing this, I suggest looking for an adapter ring. But they will be a challenge, from 67 or 70mm down to 60.1 that our Toyotas have. I made sure to tighten the lugnuts gradually, all finger tight first, then two-stage to final torque.

Thanks again. I updated my first post of today. The other wheels i found, the ones with the stated 5x114 pattern are from a 2018 mustang. Any issues there?. Thanks. Your help is much appreciated
As long as the pattern is 5x114.3 and the hub size (centre bore) is at least 60.1mm, and the offset is in the range of 37-45 (larger number for wider wheel/tire) then you’re fine. And 17” and above for other brands’ aluminum wheels - better chance to clear the front calipers.

With a Canadian market model, we don’t have TPMS, so it wasn’t an issue for me. Your call on your RAV though. For me, black electrical tape is cheaper than four sensors...

Likely yes. Depends on backspacing and offset. As long as the bore is bigger than 60.1 that’s ok. But again you should do a test fit on the front to ensure it clears the brake rotor.
