In all my previous cars (Acura's, Highlander) I have had he navigation system which had an address book where you could create multiple entries, each containing name, address, location, etc. I'm looking for the same n my RAV4 Prime XSE but the closest is "destination" and "address" which allows you to enter an address but not to identify the address with a name. Am I missing something?

Not being able to assign a name to address makes the list of raw addresses almost useless.

All my recent cars use the address book in my iPhone, which is transferred to the car via the Bluetooth connection. Much easier to keep updated, and easily used in other cars. Thus, when I want to call someone, all I need do is press the voice command button and say "Call 'Robert'".

Sorry, I think we're talking about two different things. I think you're referring to the Contacts entry on your iPhone which is used to make calls. What I'm looking for is a list of addresses (street, city, state or grid coordinates) that you can used to tell the navigation system where to take you. The RAV4 does allow this but you cannot give the addresses a name (ex, Bob's house, or Target store in Nashua, etc)

Perhaps you are referring to "Favorites", which you can save while using the Navigation system? There is a lot of detail in the 'Navigation and Multimedia' guide re. adding/saving favorites, managing routes, searching, etc....

Also see page 89 in the "Navigation Guide." "Search by Contact."

Excuse me for this post which is slightly off topic and probably a dumb question but does the 2023 RAV4 XSE Prime come with a Toyota navigation program built in? Right now I use Apple Car Play and Waze. I've never tried to use another navigation program but would like to try Toyota's if it comes with the car.

There is no such thing as a dumb question, only dump answers.

Not all trim levels have navigation. For the '23 RAV4, all navigation, if it is included, is cloud based and requires a subscription to "Drive Connect".

You can see the specific features that are on every trim level of the RAV4 by downloading the sales brochure from the Toyota web site. To do so, go to www.toyota.com, select "Shopping tools" at the top, then select "View Brochures". I tried to copy and paste the section from the '23 brochure for Drive Connect, but, alas, it did not format correctly:

Connected Services12 (continued)
Drive Connect20 with 1-year trial subscription35 — includes
Cloud Navigation20 with Google Points-of-Interest (POI)
data, Intelligent Assistant20 with Hey, Toyota, and
Destination Assist.21 Subscription required.
4G network dependent. O O O O S S O O O O O S S O S

You can find out what connected services you have (Drive connect, Remote connect, Service connect, etc) by opening the Toyota app on your smart phone, long press the picture of your vehicle, then select "subscriptions".

My Garmin updates are all free. Most, if not all, navigation systems that are built in will cost more for an update than a new Garmin will. When they start asking for update money, just go to Walmart or Best Buy. Better system, more accurate, don't freeze up, transportable.

Google and Apple Maps automatically update every time you use it. No download updates needed. They are free as well, never have to buy anything, ever. Very portable on my iPhone. Google maps works anywhere in the world -- does your Garmin do that? Nice display on the RAV4 radio screen using CarPlay:

Today, they opened a brand new road near me called the "West Davis Corridor". Guess what? Google Maps already has it.

Thank you for that answer. I did a "long" press on the picture of the car and mine has "Drive Connect." It states "Drive Connect empowers you to enhance your drive with increased command inside your vehicle. Through the voice activated Intelligent Assistant, which will learn your driving preferences and work with Cloud Navigation, you'll experience personalized routes based on your preferences. Or, if you would like speak with a live agent, Destination Assist can help you get to where you want to go." So it looks to me that I do have navigation until next May 13th when it runs out and I would have to pay to keep it. Does that sound correct?

I have no experience with Drive Connect or how Cloud Navigation works. Your manual on the multimedia system should show you the details.

It is not really clear if you lose all navigation functions or just certain functions once your subscription runs out. This has not yet happened to anyone, but it should start happening soon. The 21 and 22 models came with Navigation for 3 years. With the 22, they changed and included Navigation and Destination Assist into one service and only provided it for a year. My dealer said that Navigation will still work without the subscription, but they really did not know any details. It also may be that the Navigation in the 23 and later is done a bit different from the earlier models.

I don't need a $1000 iApple Crapple. $999 of that goes to China.

Your Garmin may have been made in China or Taiwan:

Garmin has three manufacturing facilities in Taiwan, one in China and two in the U.S.,
