Stopped by my dealer today and got both the windshield-wiper cowling (is that the right term?) and rear seat belt recalls done. The whole cowling was replaced and I have to say it looks like good engineering. The driver's side wiper area in particular is nicely shielded.

How long did it take for the work to be done?

Thanks, pico. Also, do you know whether there was any of the corrosion on the windshield wiper linkage which was supposed to be the reason for the recall?

No damage that I can find. It is all good. We got a lot of snow while my RAV4 was parked outside and it seemed easier to clean and start the wipers. We are getting more snow right now t so I can test it again tomorrow morning. :)

Thanks again, pico. I'm trying to decide whether having the wiper linkage recall work is necessary now, or whether it can safely be postponed indefinitely. The dealer is 2 1/2 hours distant over mostly narrow mountain roads. No road salt is used here and we have quite a lot of rain, although my RAV spends most of its time in our dry garage.

I did not receive notice of this one. What years/models are included?
I did not get a notice, either. The dealer suggested it when I visited for an oil change.
There is a post here somewhere describing the recall, years effected.

I received the wiper motor link corrosion recall notice quite a while ago. Last month (January '17) I received a second notice, this one saying that the remedy is available. This notice is headed, "Safety Recall Notice (remedy), Certain 2009-2012 Model Year RAV4 Vehicles and Certain 2012-2014 Model Year RAV4 EV Vehicles -- Wiper Motor Link Corrosion." My RAV is 'year '11.

Owners can go to www.toyotaowners.com, register, and then can see what recall notices, in any, apply to their vehicles.

I had my wiper linkage replaced, and just had my letter come in the mail for the cowl grille to be replaced. Guess I'll get the seatbelt recall done as well!

We had ours done and the work order says they replaced the wiper motor itself?? Maybe the linkage is an integral part of the motor? Check the new cowl piece. On ours there is a removable section on the driver's side that fell out. I found it just lying in the engine bay and it took me a few minutes to realize where it came from. It kind of snaps into the larger part of the cowl and the rubber seal as well but the removable bit does not seem very securely held in place.

Similar thing happened with the snap-on rear seat belt protectors they added as part of a different recall, they've unsnapped and fallen off a couple of times already. One of them my wife brought in and said she found it on the driveway. Seems like a couple of sketchy repairs to me.

how long has this recall been active?? mine says I don't have anything pending.
The U.S. recall is for certain years and if there is a recall in Canada it most likely is separate from that in the U.S.

With your post I'm concerned - I'm supposed to have the windshield wiper linkage recall done in a couple of days. Had the rear seat belt recall work done some time ago but since my rear seat is unused that recall work hasn't been tested.

What do these protectors look like? Are they white plastic or black? I'm concerned about these because I've been folding the seats down quite a bit hauling stuff. If they are that sketchy I want to know what to look for and either Toyota or NHTSA needs to be informed that they're falling out!

Mine are L-shaped and fit to the outboard part of the rear seat where the seat belt runs down into its reel. They fit on the otherwise exposed part of the hinge bracket connecting the seat back and base. In our case they are gray colored to match the interior. I suppose they'll be different color depending on your interior color.

I had Both of my recalls done last week ( After waiting 3 months for parts to be available). seat-belt cover and Wiper motor link corrosion with new cowl. It took a about 1 1/2 hours. Here's a list of parts from the work order and a couple of pics of new cowl.
