I got the snap of a rock hitting my windshield a few days ago and now have a 18" crack which will require a replacement. Insurance with a $1000 deductible means I pay out of pocket. However, the insurance indicates that the windshield replacement involves a camera which requires precision alignment and the total cost to replace jumps to $850. Which camera is this? The radar is in the grill and I don't have the 360 deg. view which some cars now have. Maybe this is feeding the lane departure system. Anyone know?

I believe that some newer RAV4 2016 onwards need to be calibrated for lane change departure, radar cruise, etc.

What year is your car?

Make sure you insist on good quality glass. There's a lot of cheap stuff out there now that has optical distortions. A couple of really good brands are PGW and Pilkington.
