Didn't know the wife left the wipers on last night in a snowstorm. Was going to go out and point the wipers up off the windshield but never did, thought it was not going to snow much. It did and got icy, everything froze to the windshield. Not knowing the wipers were on I started the car and the wipers didn't move. I started to clear the ice and they popped free and began moving. They appear to be ok.

Question: do the car designers take this kind of thing into account and put something in the wiper motors so they won't strip gears or damage themselves if turned on when frozen to the windshield?

TIA,

I believe so but its something that you don't want to be doing too often. Happened to me a couple of times and --no problems here.

One thing I do is check before I turn the key if the windshield is full of snow. Have to make it a habit. The rear one is famous for being left on in our RAV so I check both.

Later. M.
