How can the power lift gate be actuated? Button by steering wheel, key fob, outside tailgate, inside tailgate?

Via remote, a button on the lower left of the dash, and via a button on the tailgate itself. Once opened, there is a button on the inside lip of the tailgate to power it closed. It can also be closed via remote or the button on the lower left of the dash.

No button is available in the cargo area itself, though I saw a video once of someone who added an aftermarket button of some sort.

Some higher trims offer a kick sensor under the rear bumper to open the tailgate as well, but this isn't available on the XLE.

Confused on exactly what the moon roof is. Does it open? It's it glass? Why not called a sunroof?

It's glass and can either slide back or tilt open. Most manufacturers call it a sunroof if the panel is made of metal and a moonroof if made of glass.
