Hey everyone,

So I was annoyed at the sound quality of the stock JBL system in my 2018 RAV4, followed some recommendations from this forum to replace the amplifier with the one out of the 2013 model (supposedly Toyota gimped the firmware on the amp in the newer models) and also followed the recommendation to replace the front speakers with the Sound Ordnance P-35B's. The sound quality definitely improved after this. I was quite satisfied.

Just now I installed a new Android head unit after reading through the thread Android Radio 10 inch and deciding it was worth it I picked up this SYGAV unit https://www.amazon.ca/SYGAV-Android-2014-2018-Toyota-Navigation/dp/B07S8VKGDZ/

The sound quality with the new head unit also seemed to improve, so that's great. It's also much louder now than with the stock head unit, so again pretty satisfied.

HOWEVER, with the new head unit I can't increase the volume all the way up. If I try to increase the volume too much, then I get a popping and crackling sound in the dash and rear door speakers. I tried replacing the P-35B's with the stock JBL speakers but this made no difference. Haven't tried putting in the original amplifier yet.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I can fix this and get the full range of volume that the new head unit provides? Hoping I can fix this myself so I don't have to take the car to an audio professional. Thanks in advance for the help!

So going off this its probably most likely that the speakers themselves are being pushed too hard at the higher volumes. I doubt the cables are the problem since its all stock (except for the front dash speaker cables are spliced), but considering the popping also occurs in the rear door speakers it makes sense to me that the speakers are the issues. I guess I will have to replace the speakers

I may have figured out a better solution than just buying new speakers. I've found that the crackling/popping in the dash speakers/rear door speakers only occurs when the bass kicks in. Therefore, I assume that since the head unit is sending a much louder signal, this also amplifies the bass signal coming to those speakers, which the speakers cant handle. My solution therefore is to buy the bass blockers Crutchfield Bass Blockers (150 Hz cut-off) to cut off the bass going to these speakers completely.

I will post an update when I've installed the bass blockers and let you know if this low cost solution works.

Did you resolve the issue? Im having the same problem. also Im unable to control the volume on Sygav 10" via steering wheel.
Ive not had much luck with the unit. I think I mess with too many settings. I wish I could reset the unit to how it arrived.

you're probably missing a ground cable. check for a green wire in the back of the unit. that needs to be grounded with the oem bolt that used to hold in the oem radio, I also have a 10" Screen just like this, but different brand, same screen though.

Also, you can go into the actual settings of the android unit but swiping down the top menu, and go to settings. in the settings there's a tab somewhere to go into advance settings, it'll ask for a passcode. the passcode i used was 8888 and basically you have to go inside the settings to load the proper canbus settings to use the steering wheel controls. you can also change the format of the cameras youre using in case you just wanted to use the stock camera in the back, a lot less work. Was pretty straight forward.
