Hi all,

Just picked up my new RAV4 on Friday. I enjoy the car so far.

However, I start noticed some wind noise coming in from my driver side window starting yesterday. Does anyone has the same issue?

Mine is XLE trim.

thanks,

Driver's Side Wind Noise 2013 Rav4 XLE

I bought my 2013 Rav4 XLE in January and I am hearing a lot of wind noise from the driver's side. It sounds like it's coming from the outside rear view mirror. My 2010 Rav4 did not have this noise. I took it to the dealer and they repositioned the driver's side door window but that did not correct it. It's probably the design of the car, unfortunately. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I'm not hearing any wind noise on my one month old 2013 XLE. My wife's Suzuki SX4 has the drivers window wind noise (along with a squeaky dash) and it drives me crazy so I hope it never starts on my RAV4.

No noise from mine (thank goodness). Take it in and get them to fix it. Could be door adjustment or window weatherstripping or something else but it will drive you nuts if you don't get it fixed, being a new car.

Thank you for the replies. I should have noted in my original post that I cannot hear the noise with air conditioning on or the radio. With everything off, I can hear the wind sound coming from the driver's side window. I decided to drive with the rear view mirror folded in as a test and I could not hear the wind noise so I have narrowed it down to the outside mirror.

I do not think it's the same as the Lexus issue because the mirrors on the Rav appear to be a different design. I drove for a while yesterday with the rear view mirror on the driver's side folded in and the ride was quiet. It's definitely something with the mirror, which I hope can be fixed.

How fast are you driving? At 60+ MPH, there are little fins above rearview mirror arms (also 2 on sides of rear tail lights) called " Vortex generators", that create a vortex to keep the car stable at higher speeds. Could that be it?

Have you taken it to the dealer? Just curious what they told you. The dealer I went to was not very helpful.
I have the same problem and just got a leftover 2013. Wind noise driver side window. I hear it at low speed. On high speed I hear wind noise on both side but appears to be normal. In this type of vehicle I guess. Never had suv.

But I hear wind noise in my honda accord too which is ten yrs old with 187K. Still running. I guess I care since its a new car. Again should I go back to dealer. Don't know. Maybe I will just put up with it and enjoy my car. I can't let it drive me crazy. Each person is different not making fun. What drives one person to be upset or annoyed over things, might not effect the other.

OOOOO ya But what makes me happy is that I have the cross bars that got thrown in on the deal and they are way way less noisy than the crossbars from yakima that were on the honda. That makes me happy! If you get relief we all would like to know.

One observation. The noise from the side mirrors changes depending on the wind direction. If there is no wind, both left and right mirror make a normal amount of noise at highway speeds (60 mph or more). Not more, not less than most other cars.

But if there is a relatively strong cross-wind (like 20 mph or so), the wind disrupts the flow pattern over the windshield and the noise from the side mirrors increases significantly. One side will make significantly more noise than the other, btw.

I guess for some people its a sufficient motive to demand a recall or claim lemon law.

@manhog - believe it or not, I was so fed up that the dealer could not figure out what could be causing the noise from the driver's side mirror that I put electrical tape on the side of the mirror closest to the body of the car between the painted part of the mirror and the black plastic. This has significantly lowered the wind noise. I have no idea how to get this fixed without the tape though because the dealer did not have any suggestions since the mirror physically looks normal.

maybe you can take picture? how long was the tape? interesting. glad its working for u.

Not sure if anyone notice this beside the driver side wind noise. If you are driving with both windows in the back open and the sunroof is closed. The slide cover under the sunroof will vibrate up and down like crazy and making lots of noise as well.

Here is a photo of the side mirror where the wind blowing noise is coming from. http://postimg.org/image/7uicgym93/
The small piece of tape I put on is between the plastic and the painted part of the mirror and it greatly reduces the wind noise. In the summer, the tape will get melted on the mirror though so I really would like a more technical fix. The dealer has documented the noise after a few test drives but they have no solution at the moment.
