Hi Friends

I had my driver side mirror damaged for my new 2014 rav4 xle ( attached pic)
i was driving in highway and a truck driver hit me on the side and left. couldnt capture his truck details as it was night and he was driving rashly.
I would like to have some suggestions to have this fixed

1) Can i take to dealer to fix it.
2) Will it be reported in my car fax
3) what will be rough cost to replace this entire set
4) or is it suggestible to buy this part and get it fixed in any other stores? if so where do you guys buy the original mirror set
5) Do you guys replace this mirror with other one having blind spot monitor as well. if so please suggest some models

Thanks for your replies

Yes you can take it to the dealer, no it will not be reported to car fax unless you file a claim with your insurance, cost might be +/- $100 for the missing piece, I would get a quote from the dealer (make sure he gives you the part number for that missing piece) and then probably buy the part online once I have the part number and then install it myself.

Thanks Veliksam and AZjeff

The Mirror is not broken but internal parts seems to be broken because the mirror is not able to sit inside and the holders appears to be lost. the backside casing is lost.
The mirror is just hanging because it is connected to wires, otherwise i am not able to fix it inside. Because of this, i think something inside got broken and got lost.

My car is just one day old and i have never replaced any part myself before. so i am thinking it is safe to go to a dealer and have it replaced.

Thanks for answering my question on carfax.
I had a scenario while trying to buy an used car where there is an accident reported in autocheck but not in carfax. that guy didn't use insurance also and had it fixed in a body shop.
He donno how it got into autocheck.
so i wanted to verify if we get any part replaced also at dealer/bodyshop will it be reported to carfax/autocheck.

If a dealer repairs it, he shouldn't care. Check toyotapartscheap.com and you'll see a price of about $300.00 retail for the whole assembly (at least for '13 models). Depending upon your deductible it may not matter on hit/runs. Whole job s/b < $500.00 unless they can fix the guts, which may exceed the labor. The mirror assembly comes pre-painted so it's plug/play. Sure you don't want to figure out how to take apart a door panel and diy?

Yeah, we like it when things are reported to Carfax and others when we're looking at cars but don't want our problems to show up!:wink
Well i was trying to understand how carfax and autocheck works.
I was thinking they will report it only if insurance is claimed.
but the last incident proved even if insurance is not claimed they will still be reported.
If this is reported in carfax, i would prefer to claim it from insurance.
and if the insurance is paying i wouldn't mind it appearing in carfax

Wow, 1 day old and you get hit, that's a tough deal. If you had no body damage it sounds like you can get it replaced already painted and will be good as new. Have you been back to your Toyota dealer? They might feel bad for you and give you a good deal on the parts and repair. Worth a try.
