This was an old post regarding this subject. A newbie asked me so let me post it here. Yes, it does benefit the exhaust system. I've had mine since 2008 and the muffler is still in excellent shape. First of all, where did I buy it, here.
BTW, I also DEI wrapped it. Yes, the entire muffler system. But what does it do?

Earthing straps to properly ground your exhaust system to the chassis. It is designed to maximize exhaust efficiency by minimizing static electricity that obstructs exhaust flow within the muffler. Benefits may include: Increased torque response / reduced static electricity in exhaust / reduced vibration noise from exhaust / improved corrosion resistant of muffler. Use w/ HotEarth for cumulative performance enhancement! Installation: Each kit comes with 2 ground straps; one is connected from the exhaust where the muffler bolts on the midpipe to the chassis, and the other is connected from the exhaust where the midpipe bolts on the cat. converter to the chassis. If possible, best results will be had if any paint/debris is scraped where the terminals connect for a solid metal-to-metal contact.

Those mods that everyone told me, at that time, that is was a waste of time and money. I say today; IN YOUR FACE.

Roflmao, static electricity obstructing the exhaust gas flow? Whatever next :D

OK mate, I know that there are some cheap people who won't buy these things. I took a chance and man, it has worked for me just fine. That system has hold up very well. Nothing has been changed except the DEI wrap. Regarding the lingo mate. Some words are more like a "sell". What ever.

Well mensajero I can only ask this........ Do race or rally cars use an earthed exhaust system? None that I've ever heard of! If it was worth anything, wouldn't the serious performance guys all be using it?

You say it's worked for you, but we can assume that the system it's self has worked and doesn't really have anything to do with earthing it. And as for corrosion, in real life tests, two dissimilar metals are much more corrosion resistant if they are separate, as soon as one joins them together, there will be a slight electrolytic reaction and slight corrosion will ensue.

Just my opinion mate, so please don't take it personally.

Well, remember, this is a street car. anything that can help to add to its reliability, I'm willing to try it. It so happens that this insignificant mod was cheap and it really has helped in the durability of my exhaust system. I've seen many Toyota owners with the exhaust system being eaten up by the environment. Rust sets in and you have a very loud exhaust. I've had rotary car with 13B engine that in a few month, the exhaust rust because of the amount of rain we get in the tropics.

Regarding taking it personally, no, just observing and posting my opinion with stuff that I've tested and tried for the benefit of all the members. A long time ago, (1997) the then members and I said that we were going to test and research the many products and watch for the so called "BarClay stuff". Meaning stuff that really didn't work and online stores were pushing it to sell. But in reality, they were just junk. I remember the words or the lingo that we had at that time. The words were “Constructive Criticism”. So we can maintain respect among ourselves at that time. So no one could feel like a fool when he/she wasted his/her hard earn money and purchase something that really was junk and was not going to work. Times have change. :nerd

Err, isn't the entire exhaust system grounded without mods because there are metal-to-metal connections all the way from the exhaust pipe (tail pipe) through to the engine, which has to be grounded in order for it to run?

remember, I'm taking about a custom exhaust system. All the OEM is gone (a long time ago )

For ****s & giggles I put a DMM across the muffler to chassis and muffler to battery and all I got was a reading of 1 ohm tops, usually attributed to the resistance in the crappy leads i was using to test it. there is no need to ground a muffler. putting a ground strap on the chassis that touches ground is a common practice, especially if high silica tires are making the whole car build and store a charge like a capacitor.
It just seems like one of those things to discharge peoples wallets, and maybe save your exhaust from dragging on the ground if you snap a hanger.

A very important and necessary but often overlooked mod is properly grounding the muffler bearing. I recommend 000 gauge 100% oxygen, nitrogen, and most important carbon-free copper multi-strand wire, preferably with translucent red silicone high-temp insulation.
You're welcome.

That, and the magnets that line up the fuel molecules.

Or the Tornado air intake.

People will buy anything with great marketing behind it, whether it works or not.

If there is a resonator in the system, then you have to use the opaque blue silicone high-temp insulation otherwise the turn signal fluid will boil.

My father in law has a 1991 car with the original muffler and no grounding straps. My argument is that if he used grounding straps, his muffler would have rotated and the inlet would have become the outlet.

This is good. Yeah, I've hread about the "Caja de bolas del Muffler" = muffler bearing. Is that a propeller or a rotary fig a ma jig?

Is your custom exhaust system made of something other than metal? I've had custom exhaust systems (not on my RAV) from exhaust manifold to tailpipe (exhaust pipe) and they have been all metal. If yours is not metallic, what is it made of? Thanks!

I respect all the nonsense that the colleagues wrote. If you look at the title, I was asking. (Ground Muffler worth it?) Sincerely, nice. But read here and to tell you the truth, even I didn't know this. O2 Sensor? You can keep posting "Constructive Criticism". And no, I don't think you guys are cheap and willing to test/try something.
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

OK definitive answer does the exhaust ground strap affect the 02 sensor or not??? [Archive] - DSM Forums: Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser, and Eagle Talon Forum: DSMtalk.com

I've got some freshly squeezed snake oil I could sell you. Add 1 teaspoon in at your next oil change and it will help lubricate your engine even better with noticeable gains in mileage and horsepower guaranteed!

Seriously? ............. It's a total waste of time and effort. You only have to read the posts above to see that science has won through and hearsay is questioned. There is far too much mis information on the net these days and I believe it's important that forums like these don't give out bad info, what we need are facts, things that work with tested results - not just 'I think it feels better after this mod or that mod'.
