After installing all the brakes I found a corrosion issue on my rigid brake lines and started a new thread concerning those issues and repairs at this link...

http://www.rav4world.com/forums/85-4-1-faults-fixes/210626-brake-line-corrosion.html

And, to add insult to injury, after replacing all the hoses and belts I took her on a little shake down run and one of the transmission cooler lines blew out and destroyed the transmission, those repairs are at this link...

what you need now is some roof lights (not led bars) to go with the looks of the front bullbar. Yours looks unstoppable.
Thanks for the complements, yeah, debating on the lights, want to add some fog lights as low as possible to the front and then off-road lights.

This week working on a transmission replacement and several upgrades at the same time.

Replace blown 5sp transmission with low mileage 5sp tranny
Corrosion control in the engine compartment
Insulate firewall to deaden noise and reflect heat away from cabin
Install snorkel, not so I can do deep water crossings, but as a cool air intake and to prevent so much trash from getting pulled into the filter when off-roading across grassy areas
Install new air box and 4" conical filter
Install thermal liner under hood
Cut out rear of wheel wells and install patch area with aluminum for clearance of my 30" tires
Replace expansion (freeze) plugs
Replace front and rear engine seals
Replace clutch, pressure plate, and fly wheel
Replace all vacuum hoses (all other hoses have been replaced)
Install transmission temperature sensor and filter kit
Install thermostatically controlled oil cooler, oil temperature and oil pressure gauges. The gauges will sit where the factory radio was installed,
Install double din radio where the cigarette lighter, ashtray, and cup holders were.
Installation of mossy oak vinyl wrap over entire RAV4

A lot to do, will be taking pictures as I go along

eodgator did the wheel spacers help at all with rubbing? Mine is running slightly & wondering if I should buy the same spacers, might just order them anyhow to see what's what.

They helped a some but they still rub, I'll take photos when I cut the wheel wells and patch them to gain about 1.5" to 2" of clearance.

Good work so far!, I will be doing the foam/foil heat insulation in my RAV too, I recommend it!, it will cut the head down a lot.

The mossy oak wrap sounds like something you wrap your rifle in to camouflage it :p, I look forward to seeing a camo wrapped RAV :D

Yes, I'll be sound proofing and thermally protecting my RAV in the same manner.

The one thing I haven't figured out is what to do about cup holders. I was considering trying to find a console that would fit or make one and move the emergency brake over to one side or put in an old fashioned foot pedal emergency brake. Just pondering the concept right now.

Yes, I have insulation for the interior this is what I'm using:

  • Thermo-Guard Flame Retardant, 48" X 72" Two Sided Thermo-Tec 14125 - This is going over the firewall on the engine compartment side for heat and noise control in the cabin
  • Hoodliner 32" x 54" x 3/4" Thick Sound Deadener Dynamat 11905 - Under hood liner for heat and noise control
  • Car Insulation from Car Insulation - Lightweight Thermal Sound Deadener This will be installed in all 5 doors, between the roof and roof liner, in the rear wheel wells, and under all the carpeting; basically everything but the windows.

All the car insulation is light weight.

The mossy oak pattern is "obsession" and easy to apply, much cheaper than a paint job.

I this is where I am right now:

Current Mods:
Brush guard
OEM lift kit, daystar 1" spacers at the front, new struts
New rims, oversize Firestone Destination AT tires - cut out the lower rear inside area of the front wheel wells for clearance
LEDs in the instrument panel and interior dome lights
Replaced the single din stock radio and separate single din CD player with a Pioneer double din receiver - installed in the lower area where in US RAV4s the CD player, cup holder, and cigarette lighter was installed (in some european and asian models a double din receiver is installed there.
Installed three gauges where the single din radio was located - oil temperature, oil pressure, and tranny temperature
Things left to do that I'm working on as we speak:
Replacing my blown 5 speed transmission
Install performance clutch kit
Replace all the engine, transmission, drive shaft, and differential mounts
Replace engine seals
While the engine is out:
Corrosion control in the engine bay, paint the engine bay, install fire wall insulation, insulate under the hood
Thoroughly clean the engine and tranny and paint them
Install new oversize radiator fans
Install a snorkel and 4" conical intake filter
Exterior work:
Install a mossy oak vehicle wrap
Remove and paint all the trim
Paint the door jams and exposed metal on the doors
Install a XM/Sirius shark fin antenna on roof
Interior work:
Strip the interior thoroughly clean everything
Install sound proofing/insulation everywhere but over the windows
Pending future mods:
3S-GTE turbo charged engine and all the mods it will require
Rear disc brakes
Oversize front brakes
Skid plates under the engine/tranny and fuel tank

I guess that's about it for now, a lot to keep me busy.

I've been watching your mods, love to see how that disc brake and V6 conversion works out.
I was checking out ...THE BILL. It's steep, very steep. A tuner advice me to also change the gear box. The extra power will really put a strain on my OEM 5 speed E250. He advice me (adding to the bill (2K+) install from Monkey wrench.com It's a Toyota OEM Transmission – Celica/Lotus 6-speed 4.5:1 LSD or a even steeper. The torque, on stock RAV4 parts will NOT hold. Specially with my HEAVY right foot. :D
But hay, If I've been doing things my way for so long. Slowly but consistently . What the hell. If I go cheap and short. I'll sooner then later pay an even BIGGER BILL with all the broken parts. If I step back a little, take my time, things will happen. The 3MZ-FE looks strong. The guy who had it kept it up to date regarding maintenance. Meaning the engine will pull hard, imagine installing two small turbos.

Kool, sounds like a great plan.

Right now I've got mine torn apart all over the driveway. The brush guard, bumper cover, headlights, hood, radiator, and soon the engine and tranny will be removed. Found my horns were rusted to pieces, so I ordered the HELLA 003399801 Supertone 12V High Tone/Low Tone Twin Horn Kit with Bracket (amazon.com). My fan shrouds were shot too and one of the fans had a chipped blade so I'm replacing them with a pair of Upgr8 Universal High Performance 12V Slim Electric Cooling Radiator Fan With Fan Mounting Kit (14 Inch, Black), these should help keep things cool. You got me interested in doing something with the grill so I ordered CCG 6"x36" Perforated Hex Grill Mesh Sheet - Gloss Black (amazon.com) and the badge a Premium 3D Metal Decal / Sticker - Punisher Skull for Car, Truck and Motorcycle 3" X 2.2" (Gunmetal)(amazon.com). Should be looking good in a week or so.:D

Ok, here it is, I emailed Monkeywrench regarding my engine, transaxle and setup. This was their answer.

I have a 1997 Toyota RAV4. (SXA16L-AWMGKA) JT3GP10V8V001370
OEM 5 Speed E250.

Will any of your high performance transaxle fit on my 3SFE engine? Do you ship to Puerto Rico?

So, until you find an acceptable transmission are you on hold?
