Did you make sure that the "hooks" in the back of the airbox is toed in first before the clips in the front are latched. If you did not do this air will leak in from the top of the rear sealing edge completely bypassing the airfilter. I see this happening alot. My dad taught me to always check the airbox when you complete an oil change. Take the air filter out and drop it on the ground (clean concrete floor). There is always a bit of dust/dirt and falls out on the floor. Just did this a few weeks ago and there was dirt. The filter looked pretty clean but it still dropped some dirt. Air filter has 10K, so 2nd time I have "cleaned" it in this manner.

Although not sure, that's probably the most likely occurrence. I got it right this time but had much difficulty due to interference with the master cylinder on the firewall. Last time this was done, I don't recall checking closely and didn't look this time before unlatching. I take SOME comfort that the charcoal filter and screen mounted in the top of the cover helped minimized crap entry into the intake manifold. :oops:

Ha! That's how I "clean" my filter too....
