The rear of the rav is saggy and bottoms out over large bumps. Someone said the 3rd row springs will fit, but I can’t find them anywhere. Can someone point me in the right direction?

3rd row springs are the factory coil springs used on cars that have 3rd seat, designed to carry more weight due to having passengers in the 3rd row. That is what you will need to order.

Have a good day.

I replaced both my rear springs when one broke. (I found it when replacing the whole rear subframe due to one section being nearly rusted thru!) Used the stock pink striped ones for my non-3rd row RAV4. I got two for $50 from a yard about an hour away. Found them on car-part.com & had one of my Harley customers pick them up for me.

Maybe someone can confirm the color marking and even a part number. I recall seeing it posted once. Hopefully you can find them from a yard otherwise it would have to be an expensive dealer item.

Adding some airbags would be another option.
Bottoming out is also a pretty generic term. Have you taken a look at the bump stop strike pad to see if there are marks on there from the bump stops.

Yeah, it’s bottoming out. You can feel it hit.
Feel and see are different. Would be good to confirm.

I was wheeling our RAV in the desert fully loaded. Felt like the rear end was bottoming out. Took a look at the bump stop and strike pad and they never contacted each other evident by the layer of dirt on the pad.

Ike you need to be constantly carrying loads near the maximum capacity or towing regularly to wear down your coil springs. Have you taken it to a mechanic to see if other parts of the suspension is the problem?

Have you checked them for broken coils? I didn't notice mine was broken until I had a wheel off for another job.

The previous owner carried the back end full of firewood.......
And... I’m the mechanic, lol.
Yeah I figured the mechanic one. I'm my own too.

Since I've never had the rear sag and bumping you describe I wonder it the previous owner ruined the springs. So maybe just replace them unless you plan on overloading it too. On the other hand I like the do-it-once approach.

FYI, my BIL has a 2008 third-row that we took on a towing trip in AK with probably 200 lbs of tongue weight. With about 380 lbs of husbands in front and maybe 280 lbs of wives in back and the rear full of cargo everything rode very well.

Also, it would be nice if you filled out your signature Ike.

I found a pair of 3rd row springs, but they’re 200 miles away. They’re from a 2011. Everything I have found so far says they’ll fit, but I want to double check with anyone who knows for sure.

I think the rear springs are common between the base/Sport/Limited models, but beefier ones are used to support the additional weight of the 3rd row seats and the standard cargo carrying capacity. You should be able to verify by checking the part#s. There will be different part#s for Japan/Canada built vehicles simply for sourcing local vendors.

I've had the rear coil springs on my 2010 Sport swapped out with the 3rd Row Seat ones. No installation issue reported by the dealer that did the work.

Nope the Sport spring are different than the Ltd and Base model. The Sport springs are the second most stiffest after the third row springs. This is just one of the reason why the ride is stiffer on the Sport model.
