Most hitches will start to rust within a few months. For those that just installed a new hitch I suggest coating it with vaseline to prevent it from rusting. You need to apply a new coating every year. Do not wash off or wipe the dirt off. The build up of dirt and the drying of the vaseline makes a good rust barrier. Mine has been treated since new with vaseline and no rust on my hitch now for the past 3 years.

Gonzo, Do you have any pics from when you installed the wiring harness? Also does that harness require you to pull power from the battery or did you find another source in the rear?
Sorry, I didn't take any pics when I installed it. Taking the panels of in the rear took all of 10 minutes. I used an existing bolt on the left hand side to connect the ground wire. And then I tapped a line near the subwoofer on the left for constant power since I really didn't feel like running a line all the way up to the engine. If I had to do it again it would take 15 minutes tops to do. Though if you trailer has a lot of lights I wouldn't suggest tapping the wire I did for constant. Mine only has two sets of LED tail lights so the draw is minimal.

I took delivery of my car last week so I'm now looking to get a hitch installed on my hybrid limited in Canada. U-Haul has the Curt hitch for $149.95CAD+$40 installation (comes to $220.29CAD with U-Haul's $5 lifetime warranty + tax). Seems to be the cheapest place to get the Curt hitch anywhere in Canada.

I just got my Curt hitch from CarID. $159 shipped, including tax. It took me about 15 or 20 minutes to install.

The finish honestly seems solid to me. The overall ground clearance is not affected, as it is not lower than other bits underneath. However, it does negatively affect departure angle.

I don't care about the exposed cross bar, but I am genuinely thinking of vertically elongating the mounting holes to raise the whole hitch. I would have to cut a notch in the bumper's lower valance to fit the receiver tube, as it is only about a 1/4" below the valance, but there is room to raise the hitch as much as an inch if you trimmed the hitch mounting plates as well as the bumper.

I mostly got the hitch to carry my bike rack, but I also like having a good emergency recovery mount as well.

Something to consider on departure angle, which would you rather have take a hit when offroad, the hitch or the tail pipes/valance?
Of course. Still, you could move the hitch up quite a bit and still have it be the first thing to hit.

I am not too terribly concerned about it, as I don't plan on doing any aggressive rock trails with this vehicle. However, it is worth noting.

I got the Curt hitch installed at U-haul today after waiting for the part which was delayed by a week. In Canada, getting it from U-Haul seems to be the cheapest way to get the Curt hitch. Other places were quoting me $300CAD+ installed. Also, for an extra $5CAD, the hitch came with U-Haul's Lifetime unlimited hitch warranty that protects against damage from collision, corrosion, accidental overload, jackknife, theft, etc., including labor. That seems like an amazing warranty for $5.

My curt hitch was kind of a PITA to install. I just finished it. It had to be bent outward a bit to slide up to the proper position.

User error didn’t help either. Honest to god didn’t see the tie down hook affixed to the passenger side rail. I guess I was too excited to remove the stickers covering the bolt threads, lol. I removed the tie down once I noticed it was in the way, but still had to battle the hitch a bit to get the holes to line up. It was pinching the rails pretty tight so I had to nudge it to the correct spot with a mallet.

it looks good though. I’ll wirea trailer harness another day. As others have suggested, it’s just to attach a bike rack for now.

Does your motion sensor still work? thanks

U-Hall price went up almost $100 from a year ago.

I just got my Curt hitch and by the looks of it to install it on 2020 rav4 hybrid all you need is a knife or flat screwdriver to remove the mount hole stickers and a 19mm wrench.
It maybe even possible to install it without rasing the car at all but not sure if you can get the hitch in that way. Maybe raise it a little to have manuvering room a bit.
