Hello friends! My Prime XSE was manufactured the 29th and is en route. I suspect it’ll be the first week of December (at least) before I take delivery in CA. I’m looking for recommendations for off-road and trail use. I have been taking notes in this thread:

I see that the Hybrid’s ground clearance is only 0.2” lower than the Prime yet shorter 235s in a 19” configuration are being used. I’m assuming this is due to the substantial power increase and for braking, but can I fit something like a 235/70/16 or 245/70/16 or 245/65/17 Toyo Open Country AT3/K02/Falken Wildpeak etc. instead without a lift? I really don’t like the idea of 19”s off-road even though plenty of the big YouTube reviewers say it’s more than capable with them. Long time BMW guy looking forward to zero maintenance and infrequent fill-ups, thnxxx.

I personally would not off-road in my Prime even with smaller wheels and more side wall.
The under cover protecting the battery is plastic. A nice sharp rock could easily puncture the plastic undercarriage and tear into the battery.

Most AWD I will see is winter snow on a paved road.

If you want to off-road get a 4 Runner or Taco

I like the look of the 245/65R17 Falken Wildpeak A/T3W on the linked thread. I'm not sure I'll swap out the factory set of tires anytime soon (like Russ, my AWD needs are confined to snow and the occasional slick boat ramp) but off road I suspect the Rav4 Prime would work fine for a lot of the vast network of dirt roads and mild trails available to us out west. I'd be willing to explore some with the Prime (nothing over Moab scale 3) Toyota did give it a "Trail" button after all.

I highly recommend the Wildpeak Trails for 99% on road drivers. Little mpg hit (1-2) on a Subaru Ascent and 3 peak rated, very quiet too.

I plan on running them again. They went everywhere I need them to go while following Tundras and 4Runners on poorly maintained uphill gravel/rutted dirt roads.
